Why go for dividend-paying stocks?
Imagine you have a Shawarma stand. Some days you sell a lot of shawarma, some days you don't. A dividend stock is like having a Shawarma stand that gives you a few cents from every bread it sells. Even on days when the price of the stand itself doesn't go up, you're still getting paid.

( Why you should care )
The main reasons to like them are:
- Steady Money: They give you money even if the stock's price isn't going up. This is a great way to get a regular income. Especially as Tax will be heavily implemented in 2026 by Tinubu's Gov't you'd want to be earning steadily.

- Safety Net: Since you're getting paid, it helps a little if the stock price goes down. It's like having a parachute to slow your fall.

- They're Mature: The companies that pay dividends are usually older and more stable, like Coca-Cola or Johnson & Johnson. They've been around for a long time and aren't as risky as brand-new companies.

- Compounding: This is the most magical part! You can take the money you get from dividends and use it to buy more of the same stock. Then, the next time, you get even more dividend money because you own more stocks. This snowballs over time, helping your money grow faster and faster.

Why yields exceeding 3%?
Think of dividend yield as a way of measuring how much of a bonus you're getting compared to the price of the stock. A 3% yield means that for every $100 you spend on the stock, you get $3 back each year in dividends.

A high yield, like over 3%, is a good bonus 💰. It means you're getting a bigger "allowance" for the money you've put in.

( Why you shouldn't )
However, be careful! A very high yield can sometimes be a red flag. It might mean the company is struggling and its stock price has dropped, which makes the bonus percentage look bigger. It's like a store putting a super high discount on a product nobody wants to buy. A good company's high yield is a sign of a great opportunity, but you should always check if the company is healthy and can keep paying that high dividend.
