The reality of it was that it couldn't compete with the coming PS2, which destroyed it on performance plus DVD.

Bro they Sega nor Nintendo where at the frontier of hardware, they just worked with partners with the available tech. GB/GGC had no backlight they wanted to run 4 AA for 10+ hours.

@AtnsXBT Ok for the sake of accuracy, there was such feature mentioned for XY, IN THE PRE PLANNING DOCS, together with a bunch of other crazy ideas that never got any real development. So not really a "cut" feature. The only thing definitely cut from XY was South Kalos

I went into the leaks right when they started dropping so I can say I'm one of the most knowledgeable people about this lol.

@AtnsXBT People say features were "cut" based on proposal documents during pre-production lol. South Kalos was really the only thing that was actually cut, but even then they didn't go beyond concept art.

There are documents where GF set all the features XY will have right at the start, and they delivered all of them except for South Kalos, which was more like as a "stretch goal", in case they completed the maps faster than expected.
