I know Hange is an incredibly important character because so many of humanity's breakthroughs were driven by their discoveries and ideas. Hange Zoë is like a small gear turning within a machine, setting all the other gears around them into motion.
One of Hange's greatest acts of dedication was putting aside their hatred toward Titans in order to focus on finding ways to prevent more members of the Survey Corps from dying. I believe that after years of serving in the Corps, Hange also carried the weight of responsibility for every soldier they had lost.
Hange chose to study the Titans, working on their research from the very beginning and eventually developing it alongside their trusted team. Hange may have looked like a mad scientist obsessed with Titans, but behind their impatient and endlessly enthusiastic behavior was a genuine desire to move humanity forward, so that future expeditions wouldn't have to claim as many lives.
Eventually, they began piecing together the truth through Reiner and Bertolt's confessions, as well as the tragedy involving Connie's mother. Hange carried all of these pieces in their mind, slowly putting everything together.
And even until the very end, it seems like the Titans never truly frightened them. Not once. Hange approached them with that wide smile and those sparkling eyes, still fascinated by these strange, enormous creatures. Their love and curiosity toward Titans never became something that held them back from facing the end of their life. 🥹💜
Someone said : “Levi wasn’t looking at Hange at all, he was just looking at his missing fingers.”
Oh gosh, then try explaining this to me as quickly as you can. RIGHT NOW!
In the anime, we only get part of the scene, but please, READ THE MANGA!! They actually make eye contact several times.
When Levi wakes up, he hasn’t fully taken in his surroundings yet, so he realizes that he has lost two fingers and that his entire body is covered in bandages. When Hange puts Levi back down, THEY MAKE EYE CONTACT. Levi looks up at Hange, while Hange looks down at him. Levi quickly realizes just how much fear Hange is holding inside, which is when he suddenly says, “If we keep running and hiding, what will get us?” At that exact moment, they are genuinely looking directly at each other.
Then, after Levi notices the cart Hange made, he says, “There’s no way…” while looking back at Hange. They make eye contact again. Damn, these aren’t glances that last for just a split second. They repeatedly look at each other throughout the scene, while gathering their resolve to return to the battlefield and figuring out how to rebuild their forces.
