20mph winds already reported from Shinnecock. Setting up to be an true and extreme test of golf. I don’t think we will see a repeat of last years -16 Win.
Hideki: One of the world elite players in all aspects when his putting is on. Notoriously sneaky for betting but the same time notorious for burning my bet slip. No real reason other than I need to see the minerals from him to carry a selection this week.
JT: Plus, a new driver in the bag this week worries me. Players who change equipment the week of major championships set alarms bells off in my head. Could be nothing but it’s enough to take betting confidence away from me.
JT: A danger. His chances are obvious. He is a super talent with the weapons to beat anyone. BUT, one of Justin’s best attributes for me is his aggressiveness. I am not sure this a course to be to aggressive on, which is why I am swerving him. Could be to my peril.
Stenson: Fairway finder and elite ball striker, 2 key things for this week. He is a GIR machine but has struggled on the greens this year. To win a major all cylinders need to firing which is why I am swerving. Also a fall out with his caddy worries me accusing a lack of focus...
Brooks: It takes a special player to go back to back at USopens. No doubting the talent of Koepka but mentally I’m not sure he is there at the moment & I think he would have liked to of played more golf this year to have his game in a place to beat the best players in the world
Mickelson: Has a great record upstate. New York fans seem to get behind him. Chasing the grand slam and has unbelievable USopen record. But is he really playing THAT well at the moment? I’m not so sure but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see lefty in the mix come Sunday.
Tiger: The betting enigma. Hasn’t won in 10years but sits at 20s in the betting? I’m not sure there’s juice in that price. Tiger is Tiger and is capable of the unbelievable but I am not sure from a betting perspective that he can be held over others.
Spieth: -74 score to par in majors since 2015. That is unbelievable. We know Jordan can beat anyone, anywhere. But, is his game where it needs to be to win a major right now where there is so much talent firing? I’m not convinced.
Rahm: I will cover bet John, for sure. Very very close to be being a main bet. Course sets up nicey for him, in great form, good links player and is a multiple major winner waiting to happen. But, can he hold his head this week? It’s the missing piece which he needs to prove.
Rickie: Tremendous major record. Needs to shake the tag of being a bridesmaid and I think he can this week. He’s coming in slightly under the radar and I saw enough at Augusta to want Rickie onside this week. Loves links golf and is excellent wind player. Rickie to get his major?
Day: Excellent record at USopens. Top player and one of my personal favourites. A lot of things are a plus for Day this week, he ranks highly in many stat models. But, I am not sure his game is there right now to win a major. I can see him relying to heavily on his flat stick.
Rory: If Rory was to design a course, it would be something like Shinnecock. Long, linksy and with an importance on approach shots. I don’t trust Rory’s putter this week. His game otherwise is in good shape, but I haven’t seen enough to carry money with confidence.
Rose: In stellar form, sneaky long, superior iron player on a course where the second shot is key. The missing piece for JR over the past years has been the putter, he seems to have corrected that. Big chance
DJ: Looked menacing last week and I’m willing to skip past the fact it was a poop field. If ever a course set up for anyone, it’s Shinnecock for DJ. 5/1 last year for the USopen, price is fair and I want to be on. Can he be the first to win the week before and lift the us open?
