As we play our tournament in the shadow of the O'Brien castle in Bunratty, Ireland's most infamous chess game seemed a fitting emblem for Ireland's most popular chess tournament

The chess game descended into recriminations and accusations of cheating, sparking a war between Leinster and their Viking allies and the rest of Ireland and ending in Brian Boru's great victory & death at the Battle of Clontarf.
