I watched a video where an autistic person was given directions to find a location. The directions were correct but the names of the building were different. He said, “I look at all of the details I am given and if one is off, that can really confuse me.”
@thetrainline after the recent app update- the trainline app doesn’t work on my phone anymore. It’s just always frozen, so I can’t access my tickets/ search etc. Is this an issue with the app? I have an apple iPhone & the latest software update. Thanks!
To get an Autist or ADHDer’s attention, say their name at the *start* of your monologue. If you start talking without saying their name first, they may not pay attention - not because they are rude, but because their brain may not register that you’re speaking to them and engage.
It may be common among autistic people to become more anxious about something over time, even with increased exposure to it. Many NT people tell me that facing their fears eases their anxiety over them, but many autistic people tell me that doing this makes their anxiety worse.
The autistic urge to tell a person something you remember about them, followed by a reflex urge to keep quiet, because they probably don’t understand how autistic memory works and would likely think that you are creepy for naturally and unintentionally remembering those details.
Autistic masking is so much more than simply choosing the “right” words, body language, clothes and options. It’s: a) quickly processing huge amounts of complex data to deduce what those things are; b) monitoring how they change; and c) repeatedly and seamlessly adapting to them.
too many ice cream shops and no popsicle shops. I do NOT want dairy when it is 100º outside! I want a popsicle bar. A ‘pop shop’ if you will. I want to try little icey samples of pops like lime or mango or mint or berries you’re too embarrassed to say out loud! this is my dream.
