Like, objective discussions about film and their meaning are still interesting and important but there's a morbose obsession with them especially with certain authors which overshadows the fact movies are meant to be enjoyed and provide meaning TO YOU, not the other way around

Genuinelly annoying how people treat surrealist movies in general but especially Lynch as puzzles to solve instead of valuing individual interpretations. Whatever you felt about Mulholland Drive and what's it about is more real and important than what Lynch meant to convey

Mulholland Drive is a very straightforward film. Once the major mid-movie plot twist kicks in everything that had seemed slightly weird and off-kilter makes perfect sense. The whole "OMG nobody could possibly understand this movie" thing at the time was very silly.

It's the same with Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart. Once you figure out what Lynch is up to everything falls into place.
