Josie Wagstaffe of WLB sent the following to the City and Council regarding the changes to the Downtown OP. She makes excellent points, not the least of which is the suggestion that the public wants their feedback not simply collected, but also implemented

Good news! We agree that the Province and Region are key partners in ensuring that we get the Official Plan and the downtown and waterfront protection for which citizens have been asking. MPP Jane McKenna and Regional Chair @GaryCarrHalton are vital to this process also. #BurlON
It’s important all levels of gov’t work together to keep you well-informed on city issues. On updating #BurlON’s OP & examining our Downtown MTSA/UGC designations, MPP McKenna & I will be working together for citizens as this complex process continues. https://t.co/mD1EmyTpvO
WeLoveBurlington delivered the following delegation yesterday to the Community Planning, Regulation and Mobility Committee urging council to undertake the re-designation of the John St bus terminal MTSA and the relocation of the Urban Growth Centre #BurlON

Today, WeLoveBurlington joined in common cause with ECOB and PLAN B to challenge the inappropriate over-development of Burlington's downtown. A joint letter has been sent to Burlington City Council, our provincial MPPs and select media. #BurlON

@pete_ward_@BurlingtonGazet@EngagedBurlON We believe that Mr. Tanner has the required sequence of events backwards. If either option is selected, the relocation of UGC is moot. The downtown will be lost. We expect staff and council to do everything they can to get an OP that states what Burlington wants, then defend it.
... what the downtown could look like if the designations on it (MTSA/UGC/Mobility Hub) were removed. The delegates note the overall vision for the downtown has remained the same — not opposed to development in form of intensification, but in the right areas of downtown. 2/3
Next up is a delegation from Blair Smith and Lynn Crosby of the We Love Burlington @burlington_we community group. They applaud the work of staff, but are disappointed with the two concepts presented and hoped for a third concept that showed... 1/3
Today WeLoveBurlington delegated to Burlington city council on proposed concepts for the development of our downtown. We are concerned and disappointed with the options presented so far and will continue to fight for local voice. #BurlON

2/2 Mayor Burton publicly thanked and recognized WeLoveBurlington as well, and presented us with a certification of appreciation. Thank you @OakvilleMayor, you were a wonderful ally and champion for our cause! Thank you to the councillors who expressed their appreciation.#BurlON
1/2 This evening at Oakville Town Hall
@OakvilleMayor and several members of Town Council acknowledged the efforts of the citizen groups that fought against amalgamation. For the first time, Keys to the City were presented by the Mayor - Congratulations

Here's an ON govt GTA story;
1 Hire 2 advisors to find efficiencies in muni govt
2 Have them conduct extensive local consultations
3 Reject their recommendations
4 Provide funds to munis to hire their own consultants
5 Keep original advisors report secret
This makes no sense.
The Ontario government announced earlier this year a review of regional governance structures. Tonight @mbmayor, @MariannMeedWard, @jimdiodati and @GraydonTheMayor react to their decision not to act on that file after all. At 8/11pm with @spaikin | Producer: @carastern#onpoli
Burlington's downtown belongs to all of us and should be developed as a vibrant, inclusive place for people to live, shop and entertain. Our downtown is a cradle of it's waterfront - a natural asset deserving of open access and responsible stewardship!

Please see below the set of principles which WeLoveBurlington endorses and which we believe must be considered with respect to all development of the downtown and waterfront. #BurlON

Thank you to everyone who displayed our lawn signs! We can now have the pleasure of removing them, knowing our voices were heard, and we did Stop Amalgamation! If you could remove your sign and discard it, we would appreciate it. If you'd rather keep it as a souvenir, feel free
Thank you to Oakville North/Burlington MPP @Effie_ONB for the respect and recognition shown in your notice released yesterday stating that the Provincial government listened to the residents of Halton with respect to our desires to keep our municipal structure intact. #BurlON
