Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, joined the second leg of the oversight visit by Parliament's Home Affairs Portfolio Committee at the Beitbridge Port of Entry to assess border control measures, including the repatriation process and other operational procedures.

Major General Scheepers was accompanied by the Vhembe District Commissioner, Major General Eddie van der Walt, and other SAPS senior management.

During the engagement, Major General Scheepers highlighted the close collaboration between the South African Police Service (SAPS) and its law enforcement partners, including the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), the Traffic Police, the Border Management Authority (BMA), the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the State Security Agency (SSA), in combating cross-border and related crimes.

He further outlined how enhanced police visibility and intelligence-led operations, particularly during the repatriation process, have led to the arrest of dangerous suspects linked to serious crimes such as robbery and murder. He also emphasised the need for additional resources to strengthen the fight against crime and illegal immigration, while reaffirming plans to establish a fully-fledged police station at Beitbridge to further enhance policing and border security. @SAPoliceService Very much inspired by the commitment of the multiple law enforcement agencies…all hands on deck. Political will is another aspect that needs addressing. Civil society the same. Private sector pls avail resources for the goodness of our country.
