This is a nice initiative but will the “waste police” have the power to arrest people who dump waste illegally so it can serve as a deterrent to future erring offenders?
The Lagos State Government has inaugurated a Special Task Force to combat indiscriminate waste dumping across the metropolis, particularly on roads, bus stops, garages, and lay-bys. As part of the initiative, members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) will work with government agencies as “waste police” to monitor and report environmental violations.
Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. @seunosiyemi_ , emphasized that tackling environmental abuse requires collaboration between government and transport unions, warning that offenders will face sanctions. He also directed union leaders to ensure cleanliness in their garages and parks, discourage indiscriminate trading, and remove illegal structures that contribute to waste generation.
Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube, highlighted the critical role of transport workers in maintaining public order and security, urging them to report suspicious activities and support efforts to keep Lagos clean and safe.
LAWMA Managing Director, Dr. @muyiwag , noted that Lagos generates about 13,000 tonnes of waste daily and called on transport unions to help prevent waste disposal on roads, promote proper waste management, and stop street trading around bus stops and newly constructed roads.
Stakeholder @Sola_Giwa assured the unions of government support in enforcing sanitation standards, removing illegal shanties, and maintaining clean transport facilities. In response, the transport unions pledged their commitment to partnering with the government in waste policing and environmental sanitation across Lagos.

GRV: My name is Chinedu Gbadebo Vivour-Rhodes.
Mr. Tokunbo: Dear Chinedu,
People: Mr. Tokunbo is a bigot. Why would he call him Chinedu?
So, since when did calling someone by their real name become an act of bigotry?
Has Gbadebo removed Chinedu from his name?
You started by veering the conversation to ethnic rhetoric, he responded you in like fashion.
How is referring to you as Chinedu your own given name “hate mongering and a divisive rhetoric”?
I’m genuinely confused??
Typical. So typical of the APC. Once they lose the argument, they retreat into hate mongering, ethnic slurs, and divisive rhetoric.
The names are Gbadebo, Chinedu, Patrick RHODES-VIVOUR, Take your pick of any of the three and let's focus on the work you were entrusted to do.
Wahab, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but not only have you been the worst Commissioner for Environment this state has seen, you have also been one of the most irresponsible, unbecoming occupants of public office.
Again, you are not fit for public office.
As I told you in 2024, for the next couple of months try an DO YOUR DAMN JOB!!!
Ẹgbọn If you cant , you should resign.
Today.
