In preparing & responding to Covid-19 and to ensure food & other urgent supplies can get to people, I have put plans in place for urgent requests for a temporary relaxation of drivers’ hours in urgent cases. In doing so I won’t lose sight of driver & road safety #workingtogether

Put your phone away before driving so you won’t be tempted to use it – make the glove compartment the phone compartment. Pull over if you need to adjust a hands free device or check your map. @Brakecharity #RSW

Using either a hand-held or hands-free device while driving will make you four times more likely to crash. If you are texting this may increase even further to twenty three times more likely to crash.

[roadtozero @roadtozero]

Drivers- If you use a phone to write/read a message
•Your reaction time will increase.
•You're not paying attention.
•You're less likely to detect hazards.
•You'll be prone to drifting .
•You'll have poor control of your speed.
•You will increase your risk of crashing.

[roadtozero @roadtozero]

If you're driving, put the phone away.
That call/text is not worth the risk of hurting someone, or worse.

[roadtozero @roadtozero]

Using your mobile phone when driving is utterly shameful & can destroy lives.

There's no such thing as 'a quick glance' at your phone whilst driving. You're missing much more than you think - put your phone away whilst driving. #PinkKitten

#StormEleanor: surface water on many roads.
Adapt your driving to the conditions:
-Keep well back from vehicle in front-stopping distances will be at least double.
-If steering is unresponsive, water may be preventing tyres gripping the road. Ease off accelerator & slow down.

[NI Road Policing and Safety @NIRoadPolicing]

With temperatures expect to plummet overnight, roads and pavements are going to be icy. Please take extra care - whether you're driving or out and about this evening and tomorrow morning.

[roadtozero @roadtozero]

Skidding can occur in all conditions but icy weather increases potential for sudden loss of control. Can be caused by breaking, accelerating, steering too harshly or driving too fast for conditions. In a skid, release brake or ease off accelerator, steering in direction of skid.

[NI Road Policing and Safety @NIRoadPolicing]

Wet weather out there which leads to greater braking distances and reduced visibility. Please slow down and be aware of others about you.
