Bikers, next time you head out on your bike, think about everyone you love
Remember, it’s not just you who crashes
Expect the unexpected
Drivers – look again for a motorcyclist, a glance is not enough

The message is clear: while wildlife has no control over its visibility on our roads, people do.
Whether walking, cycling, or working near traffic, choosing to wear high-vis clothing can be the difference between being seen and not.

Slow down, expect the unexpected

Excessive speed for the road or the conditions remains a major cause of road deaths and serious injuries in Northern Ireland, especially on rural roads with higher speed limits.
You’ll always lose control to speed.

In wet weather, stopping distances will be at least doubled. You should:
• keep well back from the vehicle in front

Country roads demand extra care.
Be prepared for slow-moving farm vehicles, cyclists, horse riders, pedestrians and mud on the road.
Slow down, especially at bends, junctions and when entering villages.

Finish the sentence: "I knew it was a close call when..." Whatever comes to mind, you're not alone. More than a third of UK drivers have experienced a near miss in the past year. Don't wait for another one to remind you to check your tyres. #TyreSafetyMonth #ACTBeforeYouREact

Why not check your tyres over the weekend as October is #TyreSafetyMonth.
Drivers and riders are encouraged to adopt a habit of performing the three key tyre checks.
ACT: Air Pressure, Condition & Tread.

People who walk or ride are more vulnerable when using the road.
Drivers – remember to give cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car.

Whether you are a driver, motorcyclist, or choose to walk or cycle – all road users are being reminded of their personal responsibility to drive, ride, cycle and walk in a way that keeps both themselves and others safe as they share the road.
