#NikiSavva sounds the warning — the coalition is empowered by its disinformation apparatus which performed so well at the referendum.
we need to address lies in political advertising lest the next election becomes a fog of precision guided lies.
UN experts urged Australian authorities to treat the Voice Referendum only as a first step towards the full implementation of the Uluru Statement and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)
Why doesn't Australia to support human rights of Indigenous Peoples in Australia? Instead of welcoming people taking our country why don't we ask that question and insist upon an answer? Do politicians know? Or do we go 'REFERENDUM' so Australia does not need an answer?
Days after the referendum we still hear persistent rubbish re will of the people; ignorance coming from all sides of the debate. If results reflect Racism V. Reconciliation, how do political scientists explain 2023 results against 1967 results (if they know anything at all)?
22/9/2014 Australia votes yes - "We commit ourselves to cooperating with indigenous peoples ... to achieve the ends of the Declaration [on the rights of Indigenous Peoples]." UN General Assembly Resolution 69/2
@Alanon4 No evidence of that. The political tactics were poor. Ignored Expert Panel report; committed on election night without wider counsel; backed a partisan campaign; ignored polls; refused to reconsider. Yet he holds a parliamentary majority for rights into law.
Please, what is the policy of the current ALP government regarding the rights of the Indigenous Peoples? Can we get to the starting line for implementing the UN-led strategies for human rights of the world's Indigenous Peoples?
"Indigenous Peoples have the right to self-determination. BY VIRTUE OF THAT RIGHT THEY FREELY DETERMINE THEIR POLITICAL STATUS and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development." Vote OKAY or QUE?
Recognition in the constitution is an option. Indigenous Peoples rights are not an option. Australia must defend the racist platform until the First Peoples human rights are acknowledged and protected.
@jeremy_gans I disagree with the concept the GG does not have responsibility, personifying the 'Crown', to be transparent to the people. The role may feel symbolic through historical transition to 'democracy', but the Crown is still absolute power embodied in government. Ask any blackfella.
For me, the "VOICE" debate mirrors national attitudes. A third support rights for our mob, a third are entrenched opponents, and a third care less. What did we learn from historical voices to parliament, and why now get excited by poetry but no change? Land Rights Now!
#notONEnotFREE So much for a truth commission, as the PM decides to renew efforts to assimilate the First Peoples of Australia. https://t.co/d9PGANyX42
@AvaniDias@isabellahiggins@InsidersABC Our flags are icons for self-determination by Aboriginal Peoples. Rather the Australian Parliament have honest policies re the First Peoples than dog-whistle assimilation futures. When and how did Aboriginal Peoples decide to hand over our flags to the Australian government?
@AvaniDias@isabellahiggins@InsidersABC "Indigenous peoples have the right to maintain and strengthen their distinct political, legal, economic, social and cultural institutions, while retaining their right to participate fully, if they so choose, in the political, economic, social and cultural life of the State." A.5
