The project to maintain, preserve & attract more visitors to engage with an iconic WW1 site held by the Germans at the end of the Battle of the Somme in 1916
Why not check out the Butte's dedicated website https://t.co/VmW6aVWICt For a modest annual fee you can also be part of the project and join as an associate. Full details are on the web's Associates page.
The Butte De Warlencourt is now closed whilst we work on improving the site and making it safer.
We will be reopening in the spring. Thank you for your continued support
You will see that there are a number of old shells that have been fixed into the ground around the fence. These are not for people to take away or help themselves like someone has here! They are there to stop animals entering the site and destroying the archaeology.
In this podcast we return to High Wood on the #Somme but not in 1916 but in August 1939 when a World War 1 veteran returns to the wood. We also discovered the story of a deserter and talk to @WFServicesLtd about the Butte de Warlencourt. #ww1

@jbanningww1 I am running the project to restore the memorial.
If you can please help us to raise the funds to complete the work by the end June.
There will be a rededication service at the memorial.
