Congratulations to Past Player and ICC Umpire Rodney Tucker, who is umpiring his 100th Test as England face New Zealand in the first Test of their series.
Rod becomes only the fourth umpire to reach 100 Tests on the field, and the first Australian - an incredible effort 👏
Ball of the Century
#OnThisDay in 1993, Shane Warne bowled his first ball in England and that turned out to be the Ball of the Century.
It drifted lazily onto leg stump, then spat back a yard or two and clipped the top of off.
The famous picture of Ian Healy aahing and Gatting oohing tells the story perfectly.
On the day Test cricket returns to England, here’s a photograph of the First English Test team.
Back: Harry Jupp, Tom Emmett, Alfred Hogben (a sponsor of the tour to Australia), Allen Hill, Tom Armitage.
Front: Ted Pooley, James Southerton, James Lillywhite Jnr, Alfred Shaw, George Ulyett, Andrew Greenwood.
On ground: Harry Charlwood, John Selby.
Fourth ever, first Aussie 🙌
Congratulations to Rod Tucker who becomes first Australian to officiate in 100 Test matches tonight in the First Test at Lords between England and New Zealand.
The Millennium Falcon canonically only has one bathroom. I do not feel that is enough because at one point the Falcon is carrying two men, a woman, and god knows what Chewbacca does in there.
The woman who would be Prime Minister … she’s only marginally literate (at best), she’s uninformed, has no worked through policies, worse, she has no idea of the impacts her uninformed rants would have on the economy, if implemented…
We Are Living in the Dumbest Timeline
Donald Trump just posted a photo of a wind turbine next to birds and captioned it “Killing birds by the millions!”
He posted this without irony.
For every single bird killed by a wind turbine, nuclear and fossil fuel plants kill 2,118 birds. Coal alone kills roughly 7.9 million birds a year in the United States. Wind turbines? Between 140,000 and 328,000. That is not a defence of wind turbines.
We are living in genuinely, historically stupid times. Only rivalled, frankly, by the medieval peasants who blamed the Black Death on cats and promptly killed all the cats, which meant the rats multiplied, which meant more plague.
At least the peasants had the excuse of having no access to information whatsoever.
Trump has the internet. He chose this.
3 June 1969. Last episode of the original series of Star Trek was broadcast on NBC TV in the USA. Its two biggest stars were Captain James T Kirk (William Shatner) and 1st Officer and Science Officer Mr Spock (Leonard Nimoy).
