‘Fraudulent Trading’ Allegations Against Bang Si-hyuk Nearing Conclusion… 50 Arrested in Private Revenge Cases

Police announced that they are close to concluding their investigation into Bang Si-hyuk, who is suspected of fraudulent and unfair trading amounting to approximately 190 billion won.
Park Sung-joo, head of the National Office of Investigation at the National Police Agency, stated during a regular press briefing held on the morning of the 13th at the National Police Agency headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, “Most of the investigation related to Chairman Bang has been completed,” adding, “We expect to reach a conclusion soon.”
Police launched the investigation into Chairman Bang in late 2024, but have yet to reach a conclusion. It has also been five months since Chairman Bang underwent a summons investigation.
Chairman Bang is accused of misleading existing investors prior to HYBE’s 2019 public listing by suggesting that the IPO would be delayed, then having them sell their shares to a special purpose entity established by a private equity fund (PEF) created by a HYBE executive. During this process, Chairman Bang is suspected of obtaining approximately 190 billion won in illicit profits. Chairman Bang’s side is reported to deny the allegations.
What are the thoughts of BTS? I searched but they don’t have any statement regarding Bang Si-hyuk, alleged abuses in Hybe, issues raised by NewJeans. Meanwhile, GDragon is now taking head-on legal steps in the kpop industry.
NewJeans felt like a glimpse of how good K-pop can really be… Artist-first, creatively driven, and focused on authenticity instead of just chasing trends or maximizing short-term hype. Under the original ADOR, their success showed what happens when you actually trust creatives and let artists shape their own identity. NewJeans wasn’t just commercially successful… their brand of K-pop felt fresh, meaningful, and culturally impactful in a way that’s very very rare.
But in a power-driven and often opaque industry, things like that don’t tend to last. When a creative-centric system starts succeeding, it can disrupt the usual hierarchy, expose rotten practices, and threaten people who are used to having control. And when that happens, there are always those in power who will do everything they can to pull it back in line, even if it means dismantling something that was clearly working and undeniably special.

Japanese and Thais have been fighting on Twitter all day. Here’s the tea lol:
A Thai man at a 7-11 attempted to buy a box of instant ramen. He opens it, pours hot water, and then goes to pay. Why? Because in Thailand this is common, as Thais live in a high interpersonal trust society and people can be trusted to pay for things at shops.
For added clarity, this practice is mostly done with noodles to save time and not much else.
However, in Japan, people are expected to pay for noodles before opening them. A Japanese 7-11 cashier corrects him. No problem. The man pays. Great learning experience. The video is shared online in case other Thais don’t know.
A Japanese nationalist account reposts the video: many Japanese netizens harshly criticise the Thai man, with many being racist and xenophobic, even attacking the man for not knowing how to insert cash into the machine, calling him backward, a country bumpkin, and stupid, etc.
Thais reacted by criticising the Japanese for their uptightness, saying how when Japanese tourists make mistakes, the Thai mindset and approach are to act calm and reasonable. Thais are confused why it’s so hard to adopt an “it’s okay” mindset, especially when no harm was caused. In Thailand, this is a quintessential mindset that Thais live by.
The Japanese side responds and basically says it doesn’t matter… you’re in Japan, and the Thai man is practically stealing.
Thais respond by saying, okay, understood but who attempts to steal and then goes to pay?
Thais then pull out receipts of all the times Japanese tourists have behaved badly in Thailand, pointing out that bad behaviour stemming from moral bankruptcy like discrimination, sexual assault, and theft is more common from Japanese tourists than from Thais, with many cases making headlines over the past few years alone.
Comments about Thailand being backward because the Thai man put the cash note in the wrong way were also met with confusion from the Thai side.
In Thailand, QR payments and e-wallets are the default payment methods, and most Thais now adopt this new-gen banking tech. Japan is still a cash heavy society and relies on older infrastructure habits.
It’s worth writing that not every Japanese comments are attacking the Thai man. Many are being reasonable and those who have travelled to Thailand have been pushing back against other Japanese netizens comments.
HYBE executives never liked NewJeans because they couldn’t control them like puppets. The girls have their own voices and aren’t afraid to stand up for themselves. That’s what made them a threat to the higher-ups who wanted a group they could easily dictate. :)
Hybe crashed, looming arrest on Chairman Bang, negative public sentiment as fire trucks used in venue amidst a fire incident. It is expected that BTS and Armys will remain quiet on said topics.
So now people care about a hostile work environment?
But when:
1. Source Music (a subsidiary of HYBE) leaked pre-debut videos of NewJeans members as minors to the media through Dispatch,
2. A BELIFT & Source Music (a subsidiary of HYBE) producer attempted to kick the NewJeans mascot,
3. HYBE executives were writing in internal reports about discarding NewJeans,
4. A BELIFT manager instructed their artists to ignore NewJeans,
5. HYBE employees mocking NewJeans members on social media platforms,
6. BELIFT's CEO openly sexualised the NewJeans members,
and so on, there was little acknowledgement. People going as far as stating the girls were "over-reacting".
I suppose it only becomes recognised as a hostile work environment when it affects people they favour. That, in itself, shows selective empathy and moral disengagement, where harm is acknowledged only when it affects those they favour, while being minimised or ignored otherwise.
@philconcerts Hybe Chairman Bang Si-hyuk should be put in jail for this album if not sooner than his cases on tax fraud, stock manipulation, sajaegi album sales pushing, TAGPR media plays
@sheepymcsheepy If Dani wins, what's next isn't the contract validity ruling between NewJeans and ADOR being overturned... it will give the rest of the members a very strong case if they decide to file for the termination of their exclusive contracts.
