We worship at the altar of asset appreciation. Number go up. We anchored society's retirement plans to 401k's. Companies IPO at trillion dollar valuations. Land prices hit records year after year.
Through this lens, everything becomes rational to maintain cash flow and keep pumping the number up. It's why the other side of this debate is so passionate. It's not that these rural areas CAN'T find American workers to fill roles, It's that the cost would be a lot higher and with that comes a threat to "number go up". Unintended consequences for the next generation or our communities be damned.
Maybe… but for a glimmer of time, guys like you will benefit more. Value of labor, whether that’s hired or done by the operator would increase. Guys losing 20 H2As won’t be so horny to drive cash rent higher every year. But it’s a classic issue where the collective would be better off without it, but individually, I don’t blame guys for doing it at all while it exists.
@ElliottHenders7 It's a blessing that Hess, Whiting and Halliburton could get H2A carveouts back in 2011/12. Not sure how they could have drilled out the Bakken without em. Nobody else in North Dakota wanted to work...
The point is that it’s not always about getting people to be your workers; it’s about an economy signaling change. The signal is that the wages offered grant no path to prosperity. When you can’t get the workers, consolidation should fragment and markets can adjust to demand. None of the land will sit idle. Managers and takers building equity on others’ labor will be sidelined, and prosperity will return to the sole entrepreneur who desires to do the work on their own land.
@701Anderson@Grainmarket67@Vertzy24 Good idea! We’ve speculated H2A CDL drivers are hollowing out the hopper trucking industry, at least here. Freight rates are near flatline for the 12 years that we’ve been doing this and H2A employees are up 4x in ND in the same timespan.
This you?
Of course Elliott is exactly right about the H2A program gutting rural America. What does every other employer in the state do? Cry poor and get a carve out to import foreigners? It’s the easy button. And now has become the de facto employment program for new farm hires all throughout the state.
@brim006@DougBurgum@Armstrong_ND God forbid wages go higher to attract talent when you can subsidize importing foreigners. Republican lawmakers in ND have the luxury of most of the populous blindly voting team red and this is the result. Disgraceful. Keep the shame campaign going.
@NickHorob Should be one of these in every county. Water, power and cooling are 3 the primary necessities. 3 that are uniquely abundant in North Dakota.
Are wages in ND too good we need to import the third world? Is there a politician in the world that won’t sell their own people out to cater to these special interests? This post is triggering me man. There’s 100 reasons businesses and people build in Fargo vs. Moorhead and the insane refugee policies in MN are near the top. If wages are too high good! Inflation is hot because growth is strong even better! Importing foreigners is the exact wrong answer, frankly insane.
@TheFlowHorse@bigironchris For every seller there is always a buyer. Otherwise the prices on the screen never change. The sellers were MORE aggressive than the buyers.
So let's play this out... You drive 20 minutes from your home in Houston to the train station. Pay $40 for parking. Wait 30 minutes to board/check in. Take the train to Dallas. Rent a car once you get there to drive 30 miles across the Dallas metroplex. Show up 30 minutes late for your meeting in Frisco because you took this dumbass train.

Maybe it's just really hard to be a good at QB in the NFL and your clickbait is retarded.
