I’m voting to save Sneaky Dee’s.
Met with community organizers this evening who made the case- this is a beloved cultural institution where so many feel a sense of belonging. It’s where several local artists and bands got their start.
While I hoped a compromise might be promising, I’m now convinced that there’s no deal that would ever really bring Sneaks back if it’s demolished. I remember the Silver Dollar Room.
We need more housing options in Toronto. But we can both support housing while having parks, social services, infrastructure and, yes, cultural spaces. We need it all. That’s just good planning.
We also need to advocate to the province for the ability to effectively protect our cultural heritage. Meanwhile, I believe city hall should have the backs of those who are fighting for it.
PS- the nachos are delicious.
Among the Navajo, or Diné people, a baby’s first real laugh is not treated as a small moment. It is celebrated through a tradition called A’wee Chi’deedloh, the First Laugh Ceremony.
The laugh is seen as the child’s first joyful step into the human world, family, and community. The person who makes the baby laugh for the first time is given a special role in the celebration, helping host the gathering and guide the baby as gifts, food, candy, fruit, and rock salt are shared with loved ones.
The meaning is beautiful. The child is welcomed with laughter, generosity, and kinship. Even before the baby can speak, the ceremony teaches one of the deepest Navajo values: joy is something to be shared.
There is mixed reaction to newly introduced First Nations water legislation, but chiefs in Alberta are mincing no words with their take on the bill.
They are condemning the Carney government’s decision to bring forward Bill C-37, saying the approach is a dishonourable step backwards.
With $300 billion, we could end homelessness, fund cancer research for 40 years, and give every child free pre-K for over 7 years. Instead, Trump is sending it to Iran. This is not America First. Not even close.
Police killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley on the false claim his mother stole diapers. His killer is on paid leave & his ID is hidden.
Police killed 7-year-old Aiyana Jones as she slept in her living room. Her murderer Joseph Weekley walked free.
Police killed 11-year-old Tamir Rice as he played in a park. HIs murderer Timothy Loehmann walked free.
America's carceral system treats Black children like chattel because the system isn't broken—it's working exactly as intended. And that's the problem.
If Carney joins Ford in filling up Lake Ontario and scar what small lake front Toronto has, it will cost lots of political capital. Having gutted many climate policies, Billy Bishop expansion may prove to be a too costly an affair. Hopefully TO MPs are conveying the local reactions up the chain.
Rosie O'Donnell is back in the US, and boy does she have some things to say. She joins Jim and shares some personal news too... https://t.co/VKqzaxXlAe
BREAKING: LIVID IN LAS VEGAS! Furious Nevada voter delivers a blistering, comprehensive takedown of Trump in 90 seconds!
One Dave from Las Vegas absolutely unloaded on Donald Trump during a C-SPAN call-in segment, expertly fusing a savage summary of his presidential misdeeds with psychological commentary before reaching a sad conclusion.
“First of all, I want to say Donald Trump is out of his mind,” he opened with, before jumping right into the Pentagon’s lethal destruction of some 65 small boats in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
“He didn't declare war, and killed those survivors, that is murder.”
Turning to immigration, his voice rose as he noted that “when he killed those people in Minnesota – had his goon squad go in and murder those people – over a misdemeanor.”
“And all he does is fraud,” he added, before turning to the Epstein files and his incarcerated acolyte Ghislaine Maxwell.
“He's protecting the biggest child rapist there has ever been, putting her in a cozy place. This guy is out of his mind.”
Dave pivoted to January 6 to make a blunt assessment: “He's not a president. He tried to overthrow the government. He goes against the Constitution. He's getting rid of anything that's good. This guy is ruining this country.”
In sum: “Everybody hates him. Everybody knows he's a child molester. They won't even show the pictures of him with those girls. He should have been the first one called up [to testify].
“He is out of his mind. He's got dementia. Thirty-seven psychiatrists say he's got dementia. And the news media doesn't ask him any tough questions.”
Like about Iran. “You think he can commit war crimes and get away with it? He bombed the school, killed 150 girls in Iran, and everybody thinks it's okay. Little kids with a missile, without evidence.”
Finally bringing together Trump’s misdeeds and mindset, he turned to his immigration policy: “And now he's going after everybody who goes by the law. He wants to arrest them because his mind is warped.”
To prove his point, he said Trump is “starving his own people” by cutting SNAP benefits, while the closure of USAID “starved those kids in Africa,” before concluding “If you don't get the Republicans out of it, democracy is gone. Everything that's good is gone.”
All this in a little more than 90 seconds.
Dave is an American Everyman, who neatly encapsulated the same rage that so many of us feel as Trump’s second term continues to spiral and reach new lows of comic incompetence and abject cruelty.
The frustration is boiling over. People are watching the country get damaged daily by chaos, cruelty, and incompetence – and they’re not staying silent anymore.
We’re all Dave.
"We had no money. We had no power. We just wanted to change the world, and we did."
At Hanlan’s Point, I sat down with Cheri DiNovo to talk about Canada’s first Pride, the activists behind We Demand, and the fight for basic human rights: to work, to rent, to parent, and to live openly.
Last year, Illinois passed a law to ban ICE from conducting arrests at courthouses. Now, ICE is not just ignoring the law - they’re ramping up. In the last 5 weeks, ICE has snatched at least 80 people from the streets of Chicagoland.
ICE fascists continue to ignore the law. Indefensible. Abolish ICE.

#BREAKING: NYC Mayor: “…I’ve said to the president DIRECTLY that I believe that ICE raids are cruel and they do nothing to serve in the interests of public safety, and I do believe it’s a ROGUE agency that should be ABOLISHED because we need an approach to immigration in this country that has more humanity at the heart of it…”😳
