AMY: I'm 33. My husband and I are both engineers. We're on Baby Step 7. Net worth around $2 million. We got substantial raises this year. And we just feel like we're floating. We don't know what the next goal is.
DAVE RAMSEY: you broke through the tape and now you're standing on the track wondering what comes next.
AMY: exactly. Our last goal was paying off the house. Then college funds. Now it's just... more money coming in.
RACHEL CRUZE: two things happen when people reach this point. One is the disconnection. You were so driven toward a goal and now there isn't one. That feels unsettling.
DAVE RAMSEY: the second thing is your emotions haven't caught up with your math yet.
AMY: what do you mean?
DAVE RAMSEY: I was with a guy recently who made $15 million last year. He drove up in a $300,000 car and said he felt dirty about it. But $300,000 as a percentage of $15 million is the same as buying a $3,000 car on $150,000. The math is fine. His emotions weren't used to the zeros yet.
AMY: that's exactly how we feel. Like spending feels wrong even when it isn't.
RACHEL CRUZE: force yourself to spend a certain amount every month just to get used to it.
DAVE RAMSEY: and find the next goal. Not because you have to. Because you're wired for it.
AMY: we give above our tithe already.
RACHEL CRUZE: increase it. All three categories go up together. Give more. Invest more. Spend more.
DAVE RAMSEY: all of it will feel uncomfortable because it's the first time you've played with numbers this size.
AMY: so the discomfort is normal.
DAVE RAMSEY: completely. Your emotions are having a coffee bill moment. The math is fine. You just haven't caught up yet.
Two engineers. 33 years old. $2 million net worth.
Calling in because prosperity feels disorienting.
That's not a problem most people have.
But it's a real one.
The discipline that built the wealth now has to learn how to enjoy it.
That's the last skill nobody teaches.
@DaveDumanis@Trap_12G He’s saying he shouldn’t have to pay the government to catch a fish or shoot a deer, you dolt. The government doesn’t send me a check when a deer jumps out in front of my car and destroys my windshield.
@AggiesRecruitEx Congrats on the click bait post. That’s all you were trying to do by sticking it Tech. Hope it was worth the complete waste of time to create your little graphic. Nice to know Tech still lives rent free in y’all’s heads all these years later.
