Kurt Firnhaber has said it takes $60k to build one unit of new housing. The *highest* estimates of the unhoused population in Boulder are ~1000 people. The lowest is 600. With the annual police budget of $36,886,852 and rising, you could start construction on 614 units per year.

The average BPD officer salary in 2018 was $85,553 (83% higher than US average, and it costs $20,000 to permanently house someone, so for every officer you fire you could house 4 people.

The Boulder Police Department pulls over and arrests Black people twice as much at white people.

When Officer Lolotai beat up Sammie Lawrence for not putting his walking aid down while he filmed a police interaction, the City and the Police Department found "nothing wrong."

@v0ldie It’s ambiguous if a threat was called in or if suspicious items were reported by a concerned party. The larger point is that, beyond intent, unhoused people are at greatest risk and under higher suspicion when police respond to public safety concerns.

That said, we encourage you all to think about how suspicion of unattended bags and suitcases may lead to police harassment of our unhoused neighbors and their belongings, and how an environment of fear might affect the safety of existing in public spaces.

Bomb squad investigated three items, all turned out to not be explosives: an empty suitcase, a sandbag and a bag that was used as a weight to hold down a tent. K-9 teams swept Pearl, found nothing else suspicious
