Animal organizations usually rely on donations to operate. If you can, please consider making a donation to your local shelter, rescue group, or sanctuary (there are sanctuaries for wild animals, for farm animals, or even for senior or special needs animal companions).

With the pandemic, many shelters and rescue groups may be short-staffed as their employees and volunteers may be sick or afraid of getting sick. Many may no longer have access to the vet clinics and pet shops where they used to keep many of their animal guests.

People who opt for adopting should remember that they will be busy again once things go back to normal. Adopting an animal companion should mean giving them a home for life. Those who do not believe they will be able to commit long term should consider fostering instead.
