Mamdani is blowing through $70 million in taxpayer money to build government-run grocery stores that will likely put neighborhood bodegas out of business. How can they compete with a city-owned store that doesn't care when it loses 28 cents on every single dollar it rings up?

A key ally of Mamdani said the quiet part out loud when asked about bodega owners being wiped out: "If one publicly owned grocery store is bringing prices down enough to put a man out of business, then maybe he shouldn't have been in that business in the first place."
