#Grateful to God and the calm competency and professionalism of Capt. Tonny Tebajanga of @UG_Airlines. In a freak incident mid-air shortly after we left Johannesburg, one half of the windscreen of the plane shattered. @tebsbalis quietly and steadily held the situation even though some of us could tell things were not right, and flew us back to Johannesburg.
My mum told me that if I dropped out of university to start a business she wouldn't talk to me again... she wasn't joking.
we didn't speak properly for 2 years until she realised this business stuff was paying me enough to cover my bills
I've never held a grudge about this because back then I knew she was standing in my way BECAUSE she loved me.
She'd struggled in business after we moved here from Africa, so she was scared I would struggle like she did.
I think at some level i work hard to avoid the struggle I saw her endure
The truth for all of us (especially for 1st generation immigrant families):
The people who love you the most will sometimes give you some of the worst life adviceโฆ and not because they don't careโฆ. but maybe because they care a little too muchโฆ
They'll optimise for your comfort - the thing they probably didnโt have - and not for the growth the comes from risk and struggle.
So you have to ask people who've been where you're going, not people who are where you're from.
And ultimately it's your life, you have to face the consequences, so it has to be your decisionโฆ

You think about the runs you showed up for โ and the miles you still owe yourself.
If the week taught you anything, let it be this:
Start early. On ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ, youโll feel the result of what you began long before.

โMarriage found me when I was just 19. It wasnโt my choiceโmy parents arranged it. At first, I was scared. I didnโt know how to love a man I didnโt choose. But as time passed, love grew. We spent 23 years together. He was sick for 15 of those years, and in 2000, he passed away. We had three beautiful kids, and I adopted five more. One of them died, so now I have seven. I never remarried. I wanted to stay with my children and raise them well.
Today, people take too long fixing themselves, yet marriages donโt last. In our time, our parents chose for us, and we stayed committed. Iโve told my children never to think of divorce. I raised my daughters to be respectful and my sons to be responsible. Thatโs how I built a strong home through hardship, love, respect and sacrificeโ
