Here is a great birth/blessing chant! It can be used at circles, during labour, on a walk.
This version is sung by a midwife to help us learn.
"Woman am I,
spirit am I.
I am The Infinite Within my Soul.
I have no beginning and I have no end.
All this I Am"

She knew what I wanted. She listened to things that were said to me and helped me to ignore, respond or press pause. I could stay out of my thinking brain because I trusted her to have my back. I will never forget this.
As a doula I strive to be as good a listener to my clients.
Birth Ways International Tuesday Tips: Doulas Listen
When I met with my doula for the first time I could not believe that she was interested in how I was feeling, what was bothering or exciting me, how my appointments were going and if I had any questions, worries or fears.
She was on my side.
She did lots of things to help me and resource me but the most valuable thing she did was to just be there and listen. Prenatally. During the labour. After the birth. She listened to me during the labour and responded like no other person in the room.
The clinical staff are clear on their roles, any support persons should be actively holding the space, actively listening, taking care of all the needs of the labouring woman and keeping them as the central focus. No matter what.
Labour is not a spectator sport, where people surround and observe the action. Everyone in the room with a labouring woman is privileged to be there and has an active part to play.

Who can you call if you have a pregnancy-related question? Here are some tips to keep in mind before you dial.
β’ Health phone-line 811? Yes, if it's a medical question. Call anytime 24/7.
β’ Medical care provider? Maybe, if it's a medical question, during clinic hours.
β’ Family member or friend? Yikes! Use Caution! How much education and experience do they have with current practises or protocols? They'll be honoured you asked and some have great info. However, many may offer scary opinions and are misinformed.
