Institutional corruption survives because institutions often attack the messenger before examining the message. As many express shock over the digital number plate saga, remember that @amronaldo publicly raised concerns years ago. Many dismissed him as a bitter man, a hater, or a nuisance. Today, we act as though this reality arrived overnight. A nation that silences those who question power should never be surprised when accountability arrives late and at a far greater cost.
Our greatest weakness is not corruption itself. It is our habit of sacrificing truth-tellers to protect systems that later fail us all. Strong nations do not fear uncomfortable voices. They investigate them. Weak institutions personalise criticism instead of confronting it. History is unforgiving. It remembers those who warned, those who ignored, and those who applauded the silence.
I have seen reports that there are discussions about release of Dr. Besigye outside the judicial process which he has been subjected to. This probably means that the judicial process has failed to convict him or have the charges dropped or dismissed. Whatever the case it seems the urgent matter is allowing or facilitating him to receive appropriate medical treatment.
Then the management of the matter of his abduction from Nbi, detention, appearance before military courts and then transfer to the High Court with the handicap of not having lawyers of his choice and finally the evidence from Wilson, the principal witness, that practically was a catalogue of how he was framed with pistols and subsequently abducted in Nbi.
I am not sure talks can deal with the above situation but the State can take decisions in the relevant organs and then some issues can be resolved/handled politically with consultations. The use of terms like negotiations, implying plea bargaining is not the way forward.
@SimonKaggwaNjal And they are still holding their positions happily, unbothered & receiving salaries after presiding over something they rightly knew that it was a sham election. Cry my beloved country!
