More than 2 million people visit Chatfield State Park every year. While there is a lot of fun to be had, that fun can end in an instant if something goes wrong.

If you're on the Wasatch Front, you probably noticed a large pryocumulus cloud develop over a prescribed fire! Here's a timelapse of the plume development and a display of the instability in place over northern Utah #utwx
Memorial Day is more than the official start of summer or a long weekend. At its heart, today is a solemn pause to honor a profound debt.
Take a moment today to reflect on the true meaning of this day. Forever grateful. šŗšø
Update: 4 occupants of the home safely evacuated and have been displaced.
One person was evaluated on scene by fire medics and released.
It was determined that one vehicle was a hybrid and crews pulled that vehicle from the garage as a precaution.
40 personnel from SMFR responded bringing the fire under control at 10:59 p.m.
The cause of the fire is undertimed and under investigation by the SMFR Fire Marshalās Office.
Thanks to @ArapahoeRescue and @ArapahoeSO for their assistance.
I hope this is a true story and if so I wish it would happen more often, not the flight delays but the transparency and honesty. This gives instant respect.
I just had the craziest experience at the airport.
We are about to board a flight to Atlanta when the pilot from the incoming plane walks out of the jetway. Guy is probably late 50s, salt and pepper hair, military look. The kind of pilot you instantly feel good about seeing on your flight.
Pilot walks over to the counter, gets on the PA system, and starts addressing everyone. āFolks, Iāve been doing this a long time. Flying one of these jets is easy. The hard part is looking at 130 people and telling them their flight is going to be delayed.ā
Audible groans throughout the boarding gate. Most people here are flying to Atlanta as a layover before another flight. 130 people just had their day become a complete mess.
The pilot goes on. āI get it, trust me. But hereās the deal: During our landing, we had a small mechanical issue. Iām not your pilot for the next leg, but I donāt feel confident the jetās safe to fly until we have a mechanical team look it over, and I donāt feel comfortable asking the next pilots to fly you guys until we get confirmation.ā
He points at the agents next to him behind the counter: āNow, none of this is the agentsā fault. Please be kind to them. Iām the one who made this decision, not them, so any inconvenience you experience is my fault. Just please know that I donāt do this lightly, and Iām only doing it because I believe itās in the best interests of everyoneās safety.ā
Now this is where the story gets crazy. The pilot puts the microphone down, grabs his suitcase, and all the people in the gateā¦
Start clapping.
Iām not joking, everyone starts clapping for the guy. 130 people who just had their travel plans ruined give an ovation to the guy who made the decision and delivered the message.
All because he addressed them with decency and transparency, took ownership of the decision, made it clear that it was necessary, and explained why it was in everyoneās best interest.
Itās honestly one of the best examples of strong communicationāof strong leadership, for that matterāthat Iāve seen in a long time.
@Delta, whoever your Atlanta to Wichita pilot was this morning, heās one of the good ones. Please tell him the delayed passengers of flight 1637 appreciate what he did.

When you hear the Hi-Lo, itās time to go. Evacuate immediately.
Ā
In partnership with Douglas County Sheriff's OfficeĀ and the Douglas County Office of Emergency Management, South Metro Fire Rescue is proud to announce that Douglas County is deploying Hi-Lo sirensĀ as a dedicated evacuation notification tool during wildfires, natural disasters, and other major emergencies.
Ā
Residents that live in Arapahoe County or Jefferson County please continue to follow your countyās evacuation communication protocols.
Ā
This life-safety enhancement strengthens the Countyās layered emergency alert system and provides critical redundancy when traditional communication methods may fail.
Ā
The Hi-Lo sirensĀ are a dedicated evacuation tool for wildfires, natural disasters, and other major emergencies.Ā
Ā
The Hi-Lo system, installed in patrol vehicles, emits a distinct alternating high-low tone followed by a recorded message: āA MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS AREA. PLEASE EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY.āĀ
Ā
This system will onlyĀ be used when incident commanders have issued an Evacuation Order during extreme emergencies and adds a critical layer of redundancy when traditional alerts, such as cell phone notifications, may fail due to power outages, damaged cell towers, or heavy smoke.
Ā
Douglas County is also adopting standardized emergency terminology as part of a broader Front Range regional effort to improve clarity and consistency:
ā¢Evacuation Order: Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to leave now. The area is lawfully closed to public access.
ā¢Evacuation Warning: Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.
ā¢Shelter in Place:Ā Go indoors. Shut and lock doors and windows. Prepare to self-sustain until further notice and/or until contacted by emergency personnel for additional direction.
Ā
Hi-Lo sirens do not replace existing tools like Door Knocks, DougCoAlertĀ or IPAWS alerts ā they strengthen them. Residents are strongly encouraged to sign up for emergency notifications at https://t.co/KXAK6Xy3XzĀ to ensure they receive critical updates.
