Dr. Becky Kennedy drops parenting gold: Sibling rivalry isn't just "being mean"—it's often deep threat perception.
Kids are wired for attachment survival: "If my sibling gets more love/attention/resources, I get less." A star-athlete sib, or one who's "better" at what parents value? Instant perceived threat → more conflict.
Her fix:
1. One-on-one time (no phones!) – "Connection capital on steroids." Builds security so kids act out less.
2. Name the struggle out loud – "It's hard having a sister who's always making the team and has tons of friends." Normalizes feelings, removes "bad kid vs. good kid" binary, ends isolation.
Instead of "Why can't you be nice?", validate: "Yeah, that could feel really unfair/annoying." Connection + honesty = less rivalry, more empathy.
Game-changer insight: Most sibling fights start in the heart, not the hands.
Parents: What's one small way you've tried validating sibling jealousy lately—and did it shift anything?
Your kid can do more than you think.
Dr. Becky Kennedy reminds us: When your 3-year-old is whining over a puzzle they “can’t do,” those are the bang-for-our-buck parenting moments.
Doing it for them = short-term peace + stealing their capability.
Letting them struggle = long-term resilience + the addictive “I DID IT” feeling that builds unbreakable confidence.
Stealing that victory by rescuing too soon robs them of one of the best feelings in the world.
Next meltdown over something “impossible”?
Pause.
Breathe.
Resist the rescue.
Let them wrestle—and win.
The short scream today is worth the lifelong strength tomorrow.

Our mission to encounter Jesus with those impacted by incarceration includes children, who may feel unloved or overlooked when Mommy or Daddy goes to prison.
That’s why we partner with churches across the country to offer #AngelTree programs.
Angel Tree #Christmas allows incarcerated parents to send their children a present, the Gospel, and a personalized message through church volunteers at Christmastime.
This has transformed relationships between children and their incarcerated parents.
But the work doesn’t end after the presents are unwrapped. We also provide Angel Tree camping, which gives children the opportunity to engage in summer camps as well as specialized camps, from sports to #STEM.
Jesus hasn’t forgotten about these little ones, and we haven’t, either. If you’d like to join in this work, give today: https://t.co/cQvC9cHfmk
"The moms, the parents, the guardians—they matter too." At a Prison Fellowship Angel Tree STEM camp in Dallas, a mom named Sharvette explains how Angel Tree's mission works.
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging …
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; He lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
