The #Hokies’ season looked poised to continue as they entered the ninth inning of an elimination game against UCLA with a two-run lead.
However, their season didn’t last much longer. On the 2026 finale with quotes from John Szefc and Brett Renfrow:

FINAL: UCLA 6, Virginia Tech 5
That'll do it for the #Hokies' season. They entered B9 with a 5-3 lead over No. 1 UCLA, but were walked off not long after to be the first L.A. Regional team to be eliminated
A gutsy day on the mound for VT finally broke in the ninth.
The #Hokies’ first regional game since 2022 was largely decided by a series of ground balls.
Cal Poly simply put the ball in play (choppers, grounders, the like) and it worked, while VT grounded into two damaging double plays. More on Friday’s 6-2 loss:

The #Hokies have had their backs against the wall all season, and even before it. They’re underdogs again in regional play.
On the comparatively limited resources VT had to work with to get to the L.A. Regional, and a general preview on it @TechSideline:

The #Hokies will play regional baseball for the first time since 2022.
They’re a No. 2 seed in the far-away L.A. Regional, where No. 1 overall seed UCLA looms if Tech can beat Cal Poly on Friday. More on the somewhat surprising selection @TechSideline:

#Hokies draw a No. 2 seed in the Los Angeles Regional along with No. 1 overall seed UCLA, No. 3 seed Cal Poly and No. 4 seed Saint Mary’s.
They’ll play Cal Poly first on Friday (ESPNU).
There were quite a few performances of note in the #Hokies’ 17-10 ACCT win over Notre Dame.
They hit a record 19 times. H. Lutterman, E. Ball, L. Eisenreich and P. Daniel were especially good under postseason lights. On them and more from Charlotte:

FINAL: #Hokies 17, Notre Dame 10
The Hokies went down 4-0 before punching back with their most hits (19) and runs all year.
Ball homered twice, Eisenreich inherited a 4-0 game with no outs in T1 then froze ND through 4.2 innings.
Back here Friday for No. 2 North Carolina.
That’s a wrap on another #Hokies softball season.
Thank you to everyone who read my articles for the past three years. I really appreciate all of you who followed along. See you all soon!
Softball seasons are long and grueling. The season is a full-on sprint, until –– suddenly –– it just ends.
The #Hokies' season came to a close in an instant on Sunday with a loss to LSU.
“That’s just how the ball rolls.” https://t.co/NKzLqXMBpK
FINAL: LSU 7, Virginia Tech 2
The #Hokies escaped Akron yesterday, but two losses to the No. 16 Tigers ended their season in Baton Rouge.
Their season ended in the regional round for the fourth consecutive year. Their 48 wins are the most of Pete D'Amour's tenure.
Tigers went down in order.
Tech is in a five-run hole with three outs until the end of its season. Abromavage, Castine and Mizelle are up.
M7 // LSU 7, #Hokies 2
Do or die for the #Hokies. Bree Carrico is starting in the circle. Little bit of lineup shuffling against No. 16 LSU, which is starting Paytn Monticelli –– the Tigers' third option. Kylie Aldridge is catching and Zoe Yaeger took the DP spot.
Game starts at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
