This survey of over 600 local journalists across the country delves into the factors that lead worker to stay or leave, such as work-life balance, salary and career trajectory.
News organizations are not sustainable without good working conditions for journalists.
Without local journalists, organizations risk failing the communities they aim to serve.

This report was a follow-up to our 2023 burnout report, which found that more than 70% of journalists experienced work-related burnout.
Many respondents said they entered the industry out of desire to do public service. They found themselves jugging a number of obstacles.
