2022/23 Leverkusen under Xabi Alonso after his first 6 games: 1W – 2D – 3L → 9 goals scored, 14 conceded.

2026/27 Chelsea under Xabi Alonso after his first 6 games: 4W – 1D – 1L → 18 goals scored, 12 conceded.

So some Chelsea fans need to understand one thing about Xabi Alonso: his first season at a club is not always when everything starts working perfectly.

At Leverkusen, his first season was about building the team, fixing the problems and putting his ideas in place. It was in the following season that everything started clicking, and they went on to win the Bundesliga unbeaten.

I'm sorry to say this, but any Chelsea fan already thinking about winning the Premier League is just being delusional.

We are nowhere near that level right now. We can't defend, we make too many mistakes, and we can't just think Rogers, Palmer and João Pedro will be enough to carry us.

It looks like we have serious structural issues that need to be addressed first. Until those problems are fixed, a top-3/4 finish and Champions League qualification should be the realistic target.

That's just the truth.

If we are going to judge Alonso, let's judge him properly. Don't expect him to fix every problem in his first season. Give him time to build the team and put his system in place.

Abeg, make we calm down and give the man time to work.
