🧵As the recent influx of migrants to Altrincham hit the national news this week, here is an insider account of what is going on, how the locals have reacted and the response of politicians and officials that hasn't been mentioned in the media.
You’ll notice that she pushed him up against the barrier before that happened. You’ll also notice that, even though he was drunk, as soon as he realised it was a policewoman he stopped and put his arms down.
I assume he’ll have seen red in the moment there but he still restrained himself.
Embarrassing attitude chaps. You should be proud of your ancestors and their achievements. The Empire would not have run without Scotland and it certainly was not a colony in the slightest. You were the arbiters and builders of the greatest imperial project in history. Embrace it.
@IndigoFast This isn't even a question. Scotland IS the British Empire. It's not one or the other. The Scots are a fundamental part of it and were a fundamental part in abolishing the slave trade, establishing schools, building infrastructure and administering territory too
@Angl0Phil@GBPolitcs We’re a union and we’ve done great things together. Now is not the time to be split or divided we have enough to deal with as it is
How Zionist can Rupert Lowe be? He’s openly stated he wants to ban kosher slaughter and he’s hardly said anything about Israel in years.
I think most people of that generation have a modicum of support for Israel and their right to a homeland but I’m not sure that makes him a raving zionist?
Smells of the nostalgia and mystique of the English gentleman on a grand tour to see the wonders of the orient in the 1890’s. Contemporary examples including Rory Stewart still holding onto the idea of the heavily romanticised image of the noble Saracen so bluntly extinguished when they came here to live among us. Sad really.
Standard nitpicking at different British nationalities to try and make a point to trivialise yours. Obviously if there’s a bit of Welsh, Irish or Scottish in there that’s not an issue at all. Most of us do have some. Contrast that with different cultural practices, in group preference, glaringly incompatible cultures and tribalism from other parts of the world and it’s simply wilful ignorance to continue.
@TanDhesi The Sikhs here in the early 1900’s were often exclusively sons of royalty studying at oxbridge to take up a role in the ICS. It’s not really the same when you’ve got Vikrum doing his deliveroo rounds with his knife looking for an excuse to use it.
“Sikh MPs” writing a joint letter to defend your religion and right to carry a ceremonial knife around. We don’t really care what it was about. What we do know is that it’s highlighted significant discrepancies between factions and legal exceptions within our country. Your joint letter serves as more proof of that. More tribal differences which is obviously where your primary loyalties lie.
@FraserNelson@AnjaliEwing@Katie_Lam_MP They aren’t part of our empire anymore we owe them nothing. You don’t get to leave and still have the benefit of being part of it. It’s one or the other.
