A 21-year-old woman took all 5 anti-rabies injections and rabies immunoglobulin after a dog bite. Still she died of rabies.
Here are the real reasons why the vaccine sometimes fails and what we must fix.

@life56790@Nyarsakwa_@MOH_Kenya Not directly https://t.co/2AoOA863Dp. Beyond cosmetic concerns, there’s cost implications in managing dental fluorosis. High fluoride levels could also result in skeletal fluorosis. Preventive programs like deflouridation and public awareness would yield benefits for sure
I recently organized a dental camp in one of the schools in Nairobi with children between ages 3-8. I can report that 80% of the children had dental fluorosis. This is slowly becoming a pandemic in Nairobi county. The public and @MOH_Kenya need to pay attention
1. What is dental fluorosis? It’s a condition where teeth develop white streaks, brown stains, or pitted/rough enamel. It happens when children swallow too much fluoride while their permanent teeth are still forming. Most people usually refer to it was ‘meno ya brown’
2. Excess fluoride levels in Nairobi county is mainly from underground water sources, so the boreholes that most people get water from, which they use for drinking and cooking. Others sources are fluoridated toothpaste swallowed instead of spit out, and in rare cases fluoride supplements.
3. Mild cases of fluorosis usually pose just cosmetic concerns but moderate and severe cases make teeth weak and susceptible to decay.
4. Treatment is usually costly, depending on the severity and most parents may not be able to afford
I believe there is need for rigorous public awareness campaigns, in schools, homes, hospitals, communities… some of these talks need to even start at the antenatal clinics. Mothers need to be taught about dental care too.
Then testing and monitoring of fluoride levels for each and every water source in this county. If possible, defluoridation systems can be put in place.
This is a project that requires many stakeholders involved and I hope someday it gets done. @HonAdenDuale@fnoluga@SakajaJohnson@psmuthoni
