i really want women to understand how powerful it is to quietly get your life together. pay the debt down. save the money. fix your credit. go to therapy. take care of your body. learn the skill. stop announcing every move and let your life eventually explain what you were doing.
I look around at my friends and most women I know, and they have careers, they have apartments that they pay for, they constantly are going on trips, they have hobbies, they have friends, they eat at the best restaurants. They have entire fucking lives that are completely self funded. And yet there is this bizarre cultural narrative going on that if you are 32 and single, something must have gone wrong. But the problem we're having is not that we cannot find anyone to date. The problem is finding someone whose presence would make our already good life better. We are the first generation of women who can genuinely ask, "but do I actually like this man enough to build a life around him?" And apparently that question has resulted in a bit of a staffing shortage.
I'm a big fan of the "GPS Theory" when you miss a turn, your GPS doesn't judge you, it recalculates. No matter how many detours you take, it finds another way forward. Life works like that too. You'll make mistakes, but your destination doesn't vanish. The route just changes.
I apologize to all those women I thought were bitter while their husbands seemed so nice.
Now I know it is easy to be the nice one when you are not taking care of anything.
A lot of misery comes from making sacrifices no one asked you for and that no one will notice.
This is why the matching energy advice is mostly good for women (because they’re more prone to self-sacrifice).
If he’s golfing on the weekend go get a facial. If he’s not helping with chores, hire a housecleaner. If he doesn’t cook, make girl dinners. And if he objects then you can negotiate a mutually beneficial arrangement and he’ll start to see the other side of the coin.
I’m convinced that men are best communicated with through actions, not words, and not you getting passive aggressive over things they don’t notice because they’re less attuned to the world around them.
in a world full of people who want their homes to look modern & lifeless, this is what I like. this is so warm & homey. this pic feels like a hug from your grandma.
My sister runs the whole house…kids, meals, everything while her husband works and is very successful. He’s super disciplined too: gym, yoga, perfect routine. But when my sister got sick for a few days, he had to take time off work to manage the house and kids. He even missed an international conference and a few work opportunities because he had to stay home. By day two he looked exhausted and completely overwhelmed. It made me wonder how many successful men are successful because someone else is quietly managing their life doing unpaid labour. And what women could achieve too… if they also had a wife at home.
Tolerating always turns to resentment. At first, you call it patience, then love. But what it really is, is self-abandonment. Every time you swallow a boundary, excuse a pattern, or silence your discomfort, something inside you keeps score. And eventually, the bill comes due.
