Whether it's journalistic or creative, I write to communicate and I communicate to write.
Know more about my process. See more of what I do. I am Barbara, the woman in the byline.
For an introduction, I'm a 21-year-old Communication Arts major and writer based in Bulacan.
I value how I use words and I like to make it evident in my works such as news articles, feature articles, scripts, and more which are featured in my other posts. Scroll through! โ๏ธ
And here are my two articles that got nominated for the "outstanding published feature article on youth and education in a school organ" category! ๐ฐ

Yes, I write to communicate and it feels nice to get recognition for it!
Sharing with you this photo during the 18th Lasallian scholarum awards where two of my articles got nominated. I was so honored to be a finalist alongside big names in the media industry! ๐
3. I read and revise.
Lastly, once I finish a script or any creative piece, I read and revise a hundred times. I believe that every time I read my work, it's an opportunity to improve it, so I do. I can only call it a done deal when I have edited it at least five times.

Creative writing is a process that requires finding personal links with stories within and beyond oneself. Look for where you connect with and write about it.
Here's how I write my creative pieces, especially scripts! How about you? ๐
2. I write.
Once I have an inspiration, I start writing even if the narrative is still incomplete. I just let my words flow in building the story. Being able to write freely while still being grounded in a central idea is the essence of creative writing for me.
This is an excerpt from another short film script I wrote for the same scriptwriting class as the other one! The story is based on a related experience of my mom and I where she received kindness from a stranger back then and I paid it forward. โฅ๏ธ
In choosing stories to write scripts about, it is a challenge for me to look at my own experiences because I feel like I write better when I go outside. But, I learned from a professor and renowned writer that the personal is the most creative so, I wrote "Birthday gift":
Scripts are my common creative outputs. I like to make stories and characters out of the things around me.
Below is an excerpt from a script I wrote entitled "Sinungaling si Mama" for a scriptwriting class. It's based on the sellers of herbal medicine in front of Quiapo church.

I also use words in a more creative light. I write pieces that are less about journalism and more on film or production, in general.
Here's a short behind-the-scenes timelapse of me creating a synopsis for a miniseries project pitch! ๐๏ธ
MENAGERIE: Breaking free from patriarchal norms, Filipina writers redefine the female archetype by drawing from their lived experiences as a woman and reflecting it in their narratives. https://t.co/TeJzhjBG3r
6. Submit and revise โ
Once done with the draft, it's time to submit and let my editors review what I wrote! This is also the concluding step as after doing the necessary revisions, the article will finally be up for publishing.

From pitching ideas to article making, journalistic writing is a whole process that requires time and effort to do.
Here's a thread of the steps I take in writing news and feature articles for a student publication. ๐ฐ
5. Write the article draft ๐
Now, I write! I make sure that I insert quotes and basis for my arguments. I also follow a central idea to make the article effective and easy to read.
Here's the article output of the outline I wrote in the previous step:
