The Donda West conversation sampled on Ye’s “MAMA’s FAVORITE” (2026)
On the outro of “MAMA’s FAVORITE,” a track from BULLY, Ye samples a heartfelt conversation with his mom, Donda West, recorded over 20 years ago. With the moment capturing a young Ye reflecting on his first MTV appearance, still unsure of himself as he asks, “Can you believe it?”
Donda’s response is what makes the clip so powerful.
“I couldn’t believe it? Boy the way you are, You play tracks the way Michael Jordan shoots free throws.“ she tells him, before adding, “The main thing is that you get to do something that you really love to do.” Giving him reassurance, belief, and encouragement all in one, the kind of words that stay with you for life.
The clip, originally seen on Netflix’s “jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy”, it highlights how often Ye turned to his mom for guidance and affirmation. As her support not being just encouragement, but the foundation of his confidence. Giving him the self belief in what he does, from an aspiring young producer to who he is today.
Featuring vocals from Ty Dolla $ign and Nine Vicious, the track carries that VULTURES-era sound while blending in a newer energy. But it’s the outro that really gives the song its weight. With Donda West’s words closing it out, the track becomes something more personal, a reminder that behind the artist was always a mother who believed first. And like she said, when you truly love what you do, your time will come.
Hay sentimientos encontrados después de ver el E01 S02 de #TheLastOfUs. Sin embargo, respetaron el cameo a Santaolalla como en el videojuego, muy bien ahí.
