I think highly custom UIs will become much more common in 2027.
People are so obsessed with bringing native UI components like Liquid Glass to their apps, but I think these will matter less and less.
React Native already has most of what we need with Skia and WebGPU.
I'd love to see more focus on pushing those boundaries instead.
Even a top tier model is still one designer.
Its taste and patterns end up everywhere, so everything starts looking the same.
Once the same polished style is everywhere, it stops feeling special. Humans value rarity, which is why other perspectives still matter.
Great UI follows two golden rules:
- Don’t overwhelm users with information they don’t need.
- Don’t remove the context they need in the name of simplicity.
This whole “we invented this, we built that” mindset is such a weird form of tribalism.
A few brilliant engineers spend years building something remarkable, and suddenly millions of people who had nothing to do with it are taking credit.
We gave you C++.
We gave you DHH, RoR and Omarchy.
We gave you C#, PHP and TypeScript.
Friggin’ Bluetooth.
It’s. All. Danish. 🇩🇰
Now tell me again how technologically irrelevant Europe is.
I’ll wait.
What did you even ship??!
The ideal mobile framework we deserve:
TypeScript compiled to machine code, with JavaScript fallback for OTA updates
Seamless access to native APIs with minimal runtime overhead and abstraction layers
Framework agnostic (React, Solid, etc.)
