Thanks to @GitHub Sponsors as well for making this happen. It is now easy to set up, even in Japan! 🙏
No More GIL!
the Python team has officially accepted the proposal.
Congrats @colesbury on his multi-year brilliant effort to remove the GIL, and a heartfelt thanks to the Python Steering Council and Core team for a thoughtful plan to make this a reality.

Thanks for the show of support @nvidia!
Thinking FFmpeg is only about long command lines is like thinking astronomy is the study of telescopes.
There is a huge body of technical innovation underneath a long command line.
@johanvos Well, there's a lot of competition from Qt there. Yes, that's still a thing! It's not just about tech. Solutions like Electron and Qt are good enough for most use cases these days. The rest is PR and marketing...
@johanvos I like to make comparisons with Betamax vs VHS. One had great success as a pioneer, but got suffocated by its creator. The other was kind of clunky, but at least it was an open standard that eventually surpassed the original tech. JavaScript is kind of getting there...
@johanvos@EvanderTorres@java I'm sorry if I offended you, my intent was merely to inform you. Instead of complaining about why no one, including Oracle, regardless of who or what it is, isn't doing what you want them to do, I would personally prefer you criticize software like Visual Studio Code.
@johanvos@EvanderTorres@java You obviously have never tried Visual Studio Code. It's pretty amazing what we can do with JavaScript these days. Oracle clearly dropped the ball here.
@breandan If that's what we need for someone to start investing in Java or similar tech again, spurring competition and what not, it might not be that bad.
See how you can extend your Java application with libraries from Python and R with GraalVM (a demo): https://t.co/8UBM6EFOMg

@johanvos The easiest solution is the ffmpeg program, and we can use it programmatically, but that launches another process: https://t.co/b0hMMEEYwN
Is that acceptable?
