Quorum sensing is a cell–cell communication mechanism in bacteria in which cells produce, release, and detect small signaling molecules called autoinducers to monitor population density and regulate gene expression collectively once a threshold concentration is reached.
Did you know?
Some bacteria can actually “talk” to each other using chemical signals, a process called quorum sensing.
By releasing and detecting tiny molecules, bacteria can sense how many of them are nearby.
