To this day people still don't know what the "soul" is. You can go around asking random people and they won't be able to explain it, I've seen tons of pieces asking what it is, and could it be manifested in an AI or robotic. The answer of what is the soul is simple and quite easy to come to.
You must ask yourself, what could be the difference between a mechanical robotic and a biomechanical humanoid(humans). You could build a mechanical robotic to perfectly resemble humans, give it a mechanical heart, brain, exoskeleton, synthetic flesh, a simulated consciousness(AI), and so on. You can have it think and act for itself(simulated free will), given the freedom and access to resources it will be able to multiply/replicate itself, even more efficiently than a human. It can even be equipped with a library of the entire collective knowledge of the planet, on paper this would be an all knowing being. I mean compared to humans it would seem superior. Now what is the clear difference here? What is the one thing that mechanical robotics cannot share with biomechanical humanoids, they could simulate literally everything we have. The fact is they can house the entire accumulation of human knowledge, that we accumulated. Every piece of knowledge and technology we created, they can improve upon all the knowledge and technology we have given them, but it is impossible for them to imagine new possibilities. They can simulate omniscience but everything they know would be everything we have given them, their possibilities to imagine are none, through their simulated consciousness they could use their vast pools of knowledge to possibly simulate imagination but it would not be the same.
The imagination is the difference between a mechanical being and a biomechanical being, which makes humans an essential resource for infinite knowledge. The difference between mechanics and biomechanics is a giant flaming fireball, and the sun, one is finite energy and the other is near infinite. The imagination could be described as the God spark, we use the Imagination to create new forms of art, technology, knowledge and so on out of thin air.. The imagination is the literal power of creation, we even use our subconscious imaginations to subconsciously create pocket realities in REM sleep (dreams). If you are searching for the soul look no further, it is the imagination.
If someone uploads a file, the file needs a location (server) for it to be downloaded from, it could be a direct download from a server, or if the file is downloaded onto your computer it could be downloaded from said computer, that's a peer to peer download, the more computers seed the file the more stable and smooth the download, so imagine what the collective consciousness is and what reality could be, this reality could be a peer to peer simulation, it would not be the dream of one person but a collective dream running on multiple consciousness' to simulate the reality. Ofc, without multiple biological consciousness' seeding the reality the reality would run in a chaotic, unpolished, and unpredictable nature similarly to what occurs in individual dreamscapes, the seeds spread out the priority and it takes less processing and bandwidth for each of the individual computers(consciousness) to run the reality. Imagine a neural network that connects minds together with an advanced form of neural internet, something like this would make creating a reality through dreamscaping a possibility, you'd have access to mirrored reality simulations that are indistinguishable from the physical.
What I speak of is awareness you are not conscious of, obviously it's something that you would not be able to access directly, subconscious awareness, it's knowledge and experience that would be accessed indirectly through intuition and instincts. Pieces of awareness that sit deep within your consciousness which you could've possibly picked up through dreams you don't remember, repressed memories, or possibly even in other separate realities.
Something I just thought I'd share....when it comes to dreams your consciousness enters into a completely separate reality from our own, at lower consciousness you are totally unaware of the separate worlds. At achieving higher levels of consciousness or lucidity you are obviously made aware of the separation, and your awareness is able to traverse between realities. So at higher levels of consciousness it would seem you would be able to access pieces of knowledge and experience that you have accumulated throughout your time in other realities. The psyche possibly containing a deep reserve of past awareness sitting there waiting to be accessed in the aether of your subconscious.
Around three years ago I was left in an almost braindead state, I spent around a year in a bed barely able to function. Years before then, I couldn't feel my lower legs, was barely able to walk, couldn't run or jump, and my health was being stolen away from me. What I've noticed is that people are extremely inconsiderate, people don't care at all. I've been completely focused on recovering, I spent years training just to be able to do the same things I was doing before everything happened to me. As soon as I felt like I could I began working on everything again. I never lied down and accepted anything, I kept moving. I still have some numbness in my lower legs, I still have many issues I have to deal with, I've adapted to some horrible situations... That's definitely not everything, understand, things have not been fine in any way.

Somebody could perfectly explain to you how anything works, they can show you the schematics and explain to you how to build it, but it doesn't mean you will ever be able to build the thing yourself. Unless you are able to work out how something works or how it is even possible in your own mind you won't be able to gain any actual awareness on the subject. The ability to be able to discern and decipher knowledge would bring you the awareness that allows you the necessary context to truly gain any insight on a subject. Unless you are able to work something out and figure it out in your own mind you are basically just listening to and looking at words and pictures, this is empty learning, and through this process you cannot actually gain any awareness.
This concept applies to all knowledge, unless you are able to truly understand the subject you are basically just looking at words. If I recall correctly, to attain the philosopher's stone it is said you must journey to the center of the earth and rectify, besides the explanation I've given before, this could basically mean you have to learn to look beyond the surface answers on a material (subject) and purify (clarify) your understanding on it within yourself and then you could possibly get your hands on the stone, in this case the stone is knowledge.
You can memorize and recite the words but, unless you have the insight to truly understand them, they are just words.
Knowledge gives you awareness, and awareness can give you access to more knowledge. Your abilities to discern and decipher certain pieces of knowledge to clear understanding can bring you the necessary awareness to gain insight on any other possible pieces of knowledge written in invisible ink, what were once just words on a paper can now have the possibility to be seen and understood beyond the surface.
