🇻🇪“Our country needs help. It is so painful. We have to show emotion & support. It’s hard to focus on a game like nothing happened.”
William Contreras breaks down in tears as he talks about his country and his friends back home, searching for their loved ones amidst the rubble of the earthquake.
Contreras has been posting non-stop on his Instagram asking for help finding the missing people from the tragedy and asking for aid.
Here we go again. This is SO exhausting and I can’t even begin to imagine how mentally draining it must be for the Iranian squad.
It is long past time for other national teams to stand with Iran and speak up. This treatment is outrageous and deeply unfair.
Some guy pulled up to the World Cup event in a MAGA hat to harass the Mexico supporters and a bunch of Korean dudes stepped up and almost jumped him. This is the closest we’ve ever been to world peace 😭
i think one thing people really lose from not reading the gcu books in order is reading how Ilya isn't at team social events and assuming he's with Shane only to be hit in the face he's actually deeply depressed
For me, their most nomination-worthy moments:
Connor's ep5 confession: his most raw & cathartic. "I suffer, but my love for you endures." Beyond stunning.
Hudson's ep6 affirmation: so brutal & relatable in its honesty. "I suffer, but I must accept myself." Courageous, moving.
Zachary Suico, a fencer who competes for Penn State Fencing, spoke to @outsports about how Heated Rivalry and Hudson Williams' portrayal of Shane Hollander impacted him as a gay Asian athlete:
“I read the book, and I watched the show, and honestly, I very much understand the idea that representation does matter. But when Heated Rivalry came out, I think on a personal level, it hit very differently [...] The main character is like a gay Asian male who is competing amongst a lot of amazing people,” Suico continued. “A lot about the show really resonated with me, and I felt very represented at that moment.”
“Hudson Williams’ portrayal of the character made me feel very supported in my life, and more confident in myself and what I wanted to do.”

Nadine Bhabha has one piece of advice for the couples within the #HeatedRivalry universe…and it’s iconic.
“Love with reckless abandon. There’s so much bullsh-t to deal with in terms of being alive. Love is one of the main reasons to live, so let yourself fall.”
