#dogbreedoftheday! Perro de Presa Canario
The Presa Canario is an absolute beast of a dog. Presa Canarios ARE NOT NOVICE DOG OWNER FRIENDLY!! The require lots of training, socialization, and are extremely wary of strangers. They are also known to not get on well with other dogs outside of the family, while some that they are raised around being okay.
The Presa Canario is known as "The Dogs of the Conquistadors" or "War dogs with a warrior heart". Their loyalty to their owners is unwavering as these dogs once fought alongside the humans during wars. The Presa Canario is thought to have started making its formal debut in the mid-nineteenth century, as this was the point in time when dog breed standards became more prevalent.
Presa Canarios are minimally affectionate with their owners and can be good around children with regular socialization but should not be left alone with them. They aren't recommended to have with other dogs due to them having an ingrained hierarchy behaviors. Presa Canarios will make their own hierarchy of who is the "top dog" and who ranks below them. This can result in tiff between dogs and thus why they aren't recommended to live or be with other dogs. They are also known to have same-sex aggression. Even though Presa Canarios have short fur, they tend to shed frequently but only require bathing once a month or as needed, just lots of brushing. They are also known to be droolers due to their large jowls (cheeks). They are extremely vigilant and protective, when introducing new people it should be on neutral ground and slowly. These dogs are not keen on meeting new people. They are relatively easy to train but are very strong-willed and opinionated dogs. They NEED to be working whether as a hunting or guard dog, they become dangerous without them. They are also extremely confident and require an owner who is not intimidated of their size as this can be dangerous for all parties involved. They get to be 22"-26" in height and 84-110 in weight, with some of the larger ones getting up to 160.
I say this with love, if you do not have the time or drive to train these dogs DO NOT GET ONE. I am currently prepping myself to one day own one of these beast, it can take years to be ready for a dog like this.

I can’t believe I have to say this but please for the love of startclan DO NOT put my design into an AI generator. Cowtzzy worked very hard on my design, all of the art I have is made with HUMAN hands. I feel sick to my stomach if you think that’s okay.

Here's what to look forward to for #dogbreedoftheday!! This does not include dogs who already have post scheduled and made for them!!
Side note: I appreciate everyone not pointing out spelling errors! Dog Breed of the Day has helped me work on my dyslexia through reading about the dogs and writing about them. While I do apologize for spelling errors, its bound to happen. So thank you 🥹
#dogbreedoftheday! Border Collie
The border collie is widely considered the leading sheep-herding breed in the world, with a few other breeds matching it for speed, agility, working ability, and drive. With that, they are frequently ranked number 1 in the top 10 most intelligent dog breeds in the world and are particularly receptive to training. They are sensitive, highly energetic, and have excellent problem solving skills. Border Collies are the happiest when working or involved in high-octane activities and require lots of exercise. As long as their mental and physical needs are being met, the Border Collie can be engaging, lively, and rewarding members of the family but are not for novice dog owners.
Border Collies emerged from the ancient native British working dogs, developed along the borders of Scotland and England and was named the Border Collie in 1915. In England, Queen Victoria promoted the breed by owning several, including Sharp, who was frequently photographed with her. Her most famous is Winston Cap who was born in 1963 and is depicted on the International Sheep Dog Society badge.
Their ears can be slightly folded over around the tips but are commonly seen with pin prick ears. They are medium-small with a height of 15"-22" and 30-45lbs, though there is a small percentage that gets up to 23"-26" in height and 45-65lbs. Border Collies aren't commonly affectionate but are extremely loyal, commonly referred to as the "Velcro Dog." They are commonly used as herding dogs but can also work as guard/watch, service, agility, and companion dogs. Border Collies are not known to be friendly with other dogs and are aloof with strangers, with proper socialization this can be managed. They come in many colors such as red/blue merle, tricolor, liver and white, blue and white, red and white, and sable. Other colors such as pure white are signs of poor breeding and merles should never be bred together. Double merles can have many health issues such as blindness, deafness, epilepsy, and many others. Their coats can be short, long, wavy, or silky smooth. They are AKC registered under the herding group.
Generally healthy dogs, they can have issues with their hips and other joints due to their active lifestyle. They are also prone to Collie Eye Anomaly and epilepsy. The Collie Eye Anomaly is the failure of the cells of the posterior portion of the optic vesicles to express growth hormone and affects the differentiation of other cells of the eye.
Border Collie puppies develop the "watching eye" behavior, this refers to the way they lock their eyes onto something with a steady, hypnotic stare. With this they also adopt their distinct crouching stance/walk. This is another reason they make such incredible herding dogs.
I have one of these menaces living in my home, they are NOT a novice dog breed! If you CANNOT train them nor want to, get a different dog!!
