In reflection of my time on twitter, I agree with Carpenter & Krutka (2014). As a future teacher, I have found twitter to be a great place to find unlimited resources and communicate with other teachers locally and all around the world. #UoNTeach
Basically, the students create a quilt square about an aspect that relates to their family including what they celebrate, what is important to them, their values and symbols that represent them. What a great way to engage students with other cultures. #UoNTeach
One of the things I have enjoyed most about being on twitter has been getting informed about some days I did not know existed (e.g. world water day). Knowledge about these days has made me think about how activities and units of work could be made to focus on these days.#UoNTeach
I have also seen this book getting shared around a lot and totally agree with you @cardistephen_. An absolute must-use resource when teaching cultural diversity. #UoNTeach
I have seen my peers sharing this resource, Iβm Australian Too by Mem Fox and I can understand why! This book is a perfect way to open up conversation in the classroom regarding cultural diversity. How could you extend on this with your class? #UoNTeach
When creating a unit of work Mansilla & Jackson (2011) recommend 4 questions for teachers to ask themselves:
1)What topics matter most?
2)What will students take away?
3)What will students do to learn?
4)How do I know they are making process?
Hew & Cheung (2013), highlight web 2.0 technology as two-way communication between sites and users essential for 21st century learners. Web 2.0 tools allow for a classroom database of information on a topic to be put together for all to access. #UoNTeach
Technology such as Skype allows us to interact with people outside the classroom anywhere in the world. Providing teachers with an advantage to have authors talk about their books, explore new cultures, and allow experts to share knowledge (Morgan, 2013). #UoNTeach
When families are allowed to come in and share their culture it can be beneficial for all involved. Family involvement can lead to students feeling accepted, provide more contexts to their learning, and create strong partnerships (Goodman & Hooks, 2016). #UoNTeach
Vass (2017) provide a statistic that 1 in 3 students in NSW schools are LBOTE students. This goes to show how much cultural diversity there can be in just one classroom. With this much cultural diversity, the learning opportunities are endless. #UoNTeach
Bowen (2014) highlights service learning as learning that connects learning to community services. What service learning have you seen used in schools? #UoNTeach
Sharkey, Olarte & Ramirez (2016) recommend that when looking for community assets teachers should look for placeβs students would be happy to visit and will not have negative opinions about. This provides more meaning to the students learning. #UoNTeach
Kereluik, Mishra, Fahnoe & Terry (2013) highlight an aspect of fundamental knowledge of the 21st century framework as cross-disciplinary knowledge. The best way to achieve this is through an integrated curriculum. #UoNTeach
Kereluik, Mishra, Fahnoe & Terry (2013) divide 21st century learning into three parts the fundamental knowledge (what to know), humanistic knowledge (what to value) and meta knowledge (how to act). These are what students need to succeed in life after school. #UoNTeach
Mansilla & Jackson (2011) highlight 21st century learners must be globally competent. This is achievable by having students investigate the world, recognise different perspectives, take action and communicating their ideas. #UoNTeach
Gregory, Hardiman, Yarmolinskaya, Rinne & Limb (2013) recommend that 21st century learners need to be creative and have a strong foundation of knowledge. These are seen as the aspects needed for students to apply what they know as they learn to solve new problems. #UoNTeach
It's time to reclaim "diversity" as a vital practice, not a buzzword. This PD activity can help educators imagine what that looks like.

A great song to use when teaching cultural diversity. So much can be drawn from this song, but the message of we are one and equal is powerful. #UoNTeach
An awesome article showing the power of ICT in 21st-century learning. Definitely gave me a few ideas for my future teaching on connecting VR to aged care and the local community #UoNTeach
It is these days that allow us to teach different global perspectives on something we take for granted. Days like this also allow for learning and teaching connections to be made to many different KLAβs. #UoNTeach
It's #WorldWaterDay!
Children in Mali are thrilled to see fresh water coming from the new water pump UNICEF installed in their village.
With climate change increasing the likelihood of dangerous droughts, a source of clean water is more than worthy of celebration.
