We want to see the whole process communicate further with students, associations, and JCRs, as well as increasing the transparency of the process, should this be the primary goal of this meeting.
The next student consultation is happening on Wednesday 2nd September at 14:00!!
Sign up and let your views be known. This is the last student consultation we are aware of, so pressure is needed!
Email [email protected] to sign up!
We hope to see many of you there!
❗GET INVOLVED IN THE MOVEMENT❗:
We want many different students and student groups to get involved. So we'd like to invite students, staff, JCRs, societies, and associations to join us in a Zoom call on the 28th August at 2pm. We want everyone's voices to be raised!
THE CURRENT PROCESS :
Recently, the Chair of the University Council, Joe Docherty, sent an email to students providing some clarity on the start of the appointment process, detailing how an external “executive search firm” known as Perrett Laver would “support this process”.
Docherty’s email explained how Perrett Laver wishes to consult with students over different aspects of the University and the next VC. This was later explained to be two Zoom calls lasting one hour each. We believe this is a tokenistic approach to student consultation.
The current Vice-Chancellor's retirement presents a unique oppurtunity to have students and staff voices heard regarding both the process of appointing the next VC and the qualities such an individual should possess.
We are a growing coalition of Durham students and staff wishing to influence the appointment of the next Vice-Chancellor. The University Executive does not have appropriate priorities and is in dire need of democratic intervention. The desire for change is present!
