Yesterday we held an event about knowing your rights as a renter and knowing the legal responsibilities your landlord has! It was extremely informative, especially now it is signing season! Watch it on our facebook!

If anyone wants any advice on how to personally contact their estate agent in order to either express their concern over in person house viewings or to express that they do not want house viewings to take place in the property they rent, please do no hesitate to get in touch
House viewings right now present a serious health risk, not only to students but the wider population of Durham. This is why it is paramount students have the Right to Refuse these viewings and why we have been pushing estate agents to allow this. https://t.co/QMTZCqtiBv
Join us on Thursday when we're going to join other students from across the North East to discuss the situation we are all in, where unis are putting profit before health, and begin organising with ACORN! Come and talk about how we can all take action to change what we see!
A reminder to all students in these turbulent times: all our resources, guidance and step-by-step guide to running a student rent strike can be found on our website, https://t.co/4RatUmzJZC
Glasgow uni students have been put into unsafe accommodation all while their teaching has been put online. The students must be given justice. Join us in standing in complete solidarity with Glasgow students.

CW: sexism, racism, classism.
Condemnation by words is not enough. Durham University MUST condemn by action.
The university's foot dragging attitude to inclusivity has allowed for the growth of sexism, racism, and classism here - all of which Ripped Off seeks to dismantle.
The University has been made aware of abhorrent comments on social media that may have been posted by some students. We utterly condemn the behaviour demonstrated in these posts, which violates the values and behaviours that we uphold as a University community.
We must also remember that the university has paid off low income freshers to defer a year, making this cohort less diverse and more privileged which is a cause of this issue.
We stand in full solidarity with anyone effected by these issues.
We've put together a moving in checklist to help you move in, protect your rights, and protect yourself in the future!!

The next student consultation is happening on Wednesday 2nd September at 14:00!!
Sign up and let your views be known. This is the last student consultation we are aware of, so pressure is needed!
Email [email protected] to sign up!
We hope to see many of you there!
❗GET INVOLVED IN THE MOVEMENT❗:
We want many different students and student groups to get involved. So we'd like to invite students, staff, JCRs, societies, and associations to join us in a Zoom call on the 28th August at 2pm. We want everyone's voices to be raised!
The current Vice-Chancellor's retirement presents a unique oppurtunity to have students and staff voices heard regarding both the process of appointing the next VC and the qualities such an individual should possess.
We are a growing coalition of Durham students and staff wishing to influence the appointment of the next Vice-Chancellor. The University Executive does not have appropriate priorities and is in dire need of democratic intervention. The desire for change is present!
Please go and follow @OffCastle !! We're really trying to build the ripped off movement across the whole uni into every college and they've got some very exciting ideas so show your support and give them a follow! Cut the rent! 🏰🐯
My college denied the mould and water damage in my room meant they should reimburse me ANY of my rent... musty water came through my wall and onto the carpet. I paid £2500+ per term for this.
