Non-evidentiary / routine footage
The Utah Division of Archives general schedule GRS-2027 (“Officer and dispatch recordings”) covers body-worn camera footage that is not part of a larger case file. Retention is “until resolution of issue, and then destroy.” Agencies implement this with their own policies, which commonly use short default periods such as 90 days for uncategorized or routine footage. https://t.co/fFsnoK4IAC
Examples from Utah agencies:
• University of Utah: 90 days (uncategorized), 180 days (citizen contacts and traffic stops), 1 year (civil problems and welfare checks).
• Utah Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division: 90 days for stops with no arrest or citation; 1 year for many other categories (contacts, traffic stops, use of force, etc.).
• Other departments following similar Lexipol-style policies often default to 90 days–1 year for non-evidentiary video and delete it after the period unless a hold is placed. https://t.co/FmsxoKS1FH
