Hi, so it came to my attention that people are sending JxW’s photos of receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation in the Qrts.

I made this account to share correct info, so here is a deep dive into why Seventeen isn’t using any special laws, and how military enlistment actually works.

Bear with me, it’s gonna be long, but I’m writing this so anyone from other fandoms and inside our own fandom can understand.

1. Prime Minister’s Commendation vs. The "BTS Law"

First, let's clear up the confusion about awards. The photos being circulated show Wonwoo and Jeonghan receiving the Prime Minister’s Commendation (국무총리표창).

While this is an extremely prestigious government honor, it has zero connection to military deferrals.

The so-called "BTS Law" (the December 2020 amendment to Article 60, Paragraph 2 of the Military Service Act) applies strictly to recipients of the Order of Cultural Merit (문화훈장) awarded by the President, upon recommendation by the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

BTS received the Cultural Merit Medal in 2018, which is why they qualified to defer until age 30.

SEVENTEEN does not hold the Cultural Merit Medal. Therefore, SEVENTEEN members do not legally qualify for the "BTS Law," nor have they ever applied for it.

2. How Legal Military Age Works

In South Korea, military age is not based on your actual birthday. Under Article 2, Paragraph 2 of the Military Service Act, military age is calculated using a calendar formula:

On January 1st of any given year, every male citizen born in the same year reaches the exact same legal military age, regardless of whether they were born in January or December.

3. Standard Deferral Limits vs. Actual Enlistment Dates (MMA Process)

Under standard regulations (Article 61), a citizen can defer service using standard administrative grounds (higher education, overseas permits, active career promotion) until December 31st of the year they turn legal age 28.

Here is the exact timeline breakdown:

DK (Born 1997):His legal age-28 year was 2025 (2025 - 1997 = 28).

His standard legal deferral period ended on December 31, 2025.

Once your deferral period expires, you automatically enter the active draft pool managed by the Military Manpower Administration (MMA).

You do not get drafted on January 1st; the MMA processes physical exams, unit capacities, and issues call-up notices spread across the following year.

Entering active service in September 2026 is completely standard administrative draft scheduling for 1997-liners whose deferral period ended at the end of 2025.

Vernon (Born 1998): In 2026, his military age is 2026 - 1998 = 28. 2026 is his standard, legal age-28 deferral year.

Enlisting in August 2026 is right on schedule within his normal legal window.

The Bottom Line
If DK were somehow utilizing the "BTS Law," his deferral would legally stretch until the end of 2027 (his age 30 year).

The fact that he is enlisting in 2026 proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is following the exact same standard timeline as any regular Korean citizen.

Both DK and Vernon are enlisting completely within standard MMA regulations, with zero special legislation, zero exemptions, and zero shortcuts.

Within 10 months in her post, she closed 23 mining operations, banned open-pit mining and shut down half of the country's mining companies.

Unfortunately, members of the congressional committee decided to remove her, as some of the 16 members who voted are connected on the mining industry, which explains why most of mining operations resumed after Gina Lopez got fired.

This is one of the most disgusting examples of our politicians prioritizing their personal interest over environmental welfare.

I was debating to post my opinions on this but since yesterday I see a lot of people's opinions and I want to share mine too.

Calling mandatory military service a "vacation" or an easy break is a massive detachment from reality, especially after seeing the official statements regarding the Chuncheon International Taekwondo Academy events on July 18th.

Enlistment is a strict constitutional obligation under military law, where individuals lose personal autonomy and operate entirely within a rigid hierarchy. The official notices from both the organizing committee and the Army Taekwondo Demonstration Team prove exactly how taxing this reality is.

Due to severe weather and operational mismanagement by the organizers, the venue exceeded capacity, creating chaotic conditions on site. Instead of a structured environment, the soldiers including Hoshi were pushed into unplanned extra performances to manage a crisis they did not create, essentially being used as a shield for the organizers' incompetence.

As an enlisted soldier, you cannot simply speak up, change the rules, or alter command decisions, no matter how much you want to protect the people waiting outside. His heartfelt message saying, "I should have spoken up more and protected you, I am so sorry I couldn't," reflects the immense emotional and psychological weight of being trapped between strict military discipline and a deep sense of accountability toward fans who waited for hours in the rain.

Moving from a career centered on creative freedom into a high-stress, heavily regimented military environment is a brutal transition. When someone undergoes that intense shift and carries the heavy burden of events completely outside their control, crying and apologizing isn't a sign of a "vacation" it is the heavy toll of an unyielding duty.

We need to stop minimizing their hardships and start showing genuine empathy and respect for the reality of their service.
