One of the worst things we can do for a child is lower our expectations because we feel bad or sorry for them.
Instead, have high expectations for them and give them the additional supports and scaffolds needed to get there. High expectations are needed for ALL. #teachergoals
If an administrator only enters the classrooms for 'observational' purposes, then it'll always feel like a "gotcha" to the teacher.
If an administrator instead drops encouragement, inspiration, and relational time, then it'll feel like "I gotcha back!"
Gotcha Back > Gotcha.
If you’re a teacher… don’t assume your students know you care about them. You gotta show ‘em… every day. If you’re an administrator... don’t assume your teachers know you support them. You gotta show ‘em… every day.
Some kids carry around with them the burden of a bad reputation. Be the teacher who gives them a fresh start. Be the teacher who sees in them the potential that their parents see. YOU can be the teacher that helps them “turn the corner.”
Gmorning.
Bring every bit of yourself into the room.
What you've got from the family you're from,
What you've got from the families you've chosen.
Your willingness to listen, your longing to be heard.
Your courage, your vulnerability.
The best of you, all of you, let's go

Don't ask other teachers for what kids were trouble last year...ask them which kids need more support and advice on what they did that worked best. #MindFlip#teachergoals
