And so the account ends as it began, one Parnell to another.
Mr. Ellis, it's been such an honor being your student and even more of an honor to run this account! Thank you for everything you've done for LHS ❤
Anna: "What's your final quote?"
Mr. Ellis: "Just think about it!"
Last (?) day in calc for most people! We played pictionary and charades as a class with some... mixed success!
"OH, IT'S A CHIMPANZEE! (drawing was supposed to be Superman...)"
Campbell's soup tie!
"This one is an OG tie!"
AP exam is done! Hooray! As per tradition, we watched Stand and Deliver, and got to sign our ceiling tile posters... Mr. Ellis may not be teaching at LHS next year but we can still do it!
Very special tie from Mr. Ellis' favorite AB students!"
"...Citation needed!"
AP Calc exam is tomorrow! If you're reading this, this is your reminder that one of the best preparations is to get plenty of sleep! No quote today, but if I had to guess, Mr. Ellis would probably say:
"Good luck tomorrow! You guys are gonna do great! Just think about it!"
Last day with Mr. Ellis before the AP exam, so of course he had to rock the Tabasco tie!
"I brought everyone mints for 'MINT-al' energy on Monday!"
Get in all your last-minute studying this weekend, because Monday is go-time!
Fun fact! Last night, Mr. Ellis (for fun) spent 4 hours working on a spreadsheet exploring the problem seen to his left and now he has a 900k row spreadsheet on his Mac!
"My wife texted me at like 1AM and asked where I was so I had to tell her I was downstairs working on this!"
Our final practice AP test with Mr. Ellis was handed back today! Now we set our sights on our final challenge: the real AP exam!
Student: "Why'd you make this question?"
Mr. Ellis: "I didn't make this question!... I just email the AP people 'WRITE THIS PROBLEM LIKE THIS!'"
Mr. Ellis wore animal ties all week to celebrate Earth Day, so of course he ended with a lion on this fantastic Friday!
"You and I can agree all day long, but the AP gods on their magical hill..."
Rare Monday Tabasco tie today! It also has baseball on it because Mr. Ellis is helping throw the first pitch at an LHS baseball game tonight!
"Here's another non-separable diff. eq. We know its non-separable because if you try to separate... it's not separable."
Also, shoutouts to everyone who went to math day at Pittsburgh State yesterday! Lots of top ten placements all around, and several first places as well! Great job to everyone who competed!
FRQs and MCQs are the name of the game now that there's only a month left before the AP exam! We're in the home stretch!
"Larry-what a nerd! He made an equation for his trip! Caren was bad enough with her little chart..."
Winnie the Pooh tie today as we approach (like a limit?) our last test before the AP exam!
"Here's the silver lining: I don't care! So I'm not gonna simplify... if [the AP gods] don't care, I don't care."
Happy Friday! Very fun tie today! We're still working our way through the LAST Calc unit - crazy to think we've come this far!
"I guess you could write x=-1 as [-1, -1], but definitely not as (-1, -1). That's just an empty interval... and your points would be empty too!"
Today we learned many tests to run on infinite series, listed next to Mr. Ellis' head for your convenience... you still have to do the homework though!
Student: "Wait, this is just thinking about it!"
Mr. Ellis: "It is! And actually all of math sort of is..."
Also, as you may have heard, Mr. Ellis recently accepted a job teaching at Washburn University! This is a huge step up for him, but sadly it means that this will be his last year teaching at LHS.
Until then though, I'll keep posting everyone's favorite tie-wearing mathematician!
Even more series on this fine Monday!
Mr. Ellis: "I'm getting tired of writing all this so I'm gonna get a bit lazy with notation..."
Student: "So we can do that too?
Mr. Ellis: "Sure - in your notes!"
One last tie before spring break - and some sage advice about error bounds:
"Engineers: try not to make the bridge collapse and kill lots of people!"
Have a great spring break Chestys!
