I rewatched Spider-Man 2 and the scene that hit me hardest was Aunt May giving Peter $20 for his birthday
You can feel how much that money costs her. After Ben's death, the woman who is supposed to give Peter strength and guidance is herself struggling to survive. Those $20 say more about their financial reality than any dialogue ever could. And unlike recent adaptations that skim over Peter's money problems, Sam Raimi makes you feel it.
Aunt May needed help too. She just never said it out loud.
Peter forgetting his own birthday in Spider-Man 2 is honestly one of the saddest details about his life
He comes home and finds Aunt May, Harry and MJ waiting to surprise him, and he’s genuinely shocked because he completely forgot
Peter was so consumed with being Spider-Man, working, studying, paying rent and trying to be there for everyone else that he barely had time to be Peter Parker
everyone remembered his birthday except Peter himself
He wasn't just losing his powers he was slowly losing himself
This hurt me so much more then the "i don't love you. " He was genuinely at rock bottom here and it was so painful to watch. Tom displays the struggle so well.
old pets don’t realize they’re old. they still try to jump, run, and follow you everywhere. their bodies may be slowing down, but their love for life never does.
