In Collin County, Texas, a jury of 12 people and 6 alternates — none of them Black — was selected today for the trial of Karmelo Anthony.

Anthony, a Black teenager, is charged with murder in the 2025 stabbing death of white student Austin Metcalf at a Frisco track meet. Anthony claims self-defense. His defense team accused prosecutors of improperly striking the final three Black candidates from the jury pool.

The selection of an all-white jury in this racially charged case has sparked debate about fairness and public confidence in the verdict. Critics point to past cases, such as the acquittal of Asian store owner Chikei Rick Chow by an all-white jury despite strong evidence against him.

Does striking Black jurors — even for stated race-neutral reasons — in a high-profile, racially sensitive murder trial involving a self-defense claim undermine trust in the justice system?

This is not judicial restraint. This is judicial activism in a black robe.

History will not remember this Court as conservative. It will remember it as the Court that dismantled some of the most important civil rights and democratic safeguards of the last century.

The Supreme Court majority just admitted it’s a PARTISAN operator willing to TORCH the rule of law to advance its ideological agenda.

In an unprecedented move with a brief UNSIGNED order, it: 1) IGNORED the central basis of the lower court’s decision, 2) DISREGARDED its own precedent (that it had assured just weeks ago remained good law), and 3) REWARDED Alabama's defiance of a federal court order.

All to help Republicans squeeze out one more seat in the midterms. And on Election Day for millions of Americans no less!
